Summary: This study examined the prevalence, risk factors, and treatment outcomes of OHT/glaucoma in Chinese patients with VKH. Risk factors included poorer visual acuity, longer intervals between uveitis attacks and referral, more recurrent episodes, and posterior synechiae. Medical treatment and surgical interventions were effective in achieving normalized intraocular pressure in affected eyes.

Summary: This study identified risk factors for previously undiagnosed POAG, including lower pretreatment intraocular pressure and reporting no problems with eyesight. It suggests over-reliance on IOP level may lead to missed diagnoses of glaucoma, emphasizing the need to improve community awareness of glaucoma.

Summary: The prevalence of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) in China is 0.7%. Ethnicity is a significant risk factor for PACG in Chinese adults. Age, intraocular pressure, axial length, and central corneal thickness are also associated with the prevalence of PACG.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence and risk factors for postoperative hypotony in eyes undergoing XEN Gel Stent implantation. The results showed that 57% of eyes experienced postoperative hypotony, with 70.1% having no complications, 13.4% experiencing transient complications, and 16.5% requiring treatment. Eyes with an axial length over 24.3 mm had a threefold increased risk for hypotony, while simultaneous cataract surgery decreased the risk.

Summary: This study analyzed epidemiological data of populations in Latino and Chinese Americans, and assessed the differences in the roles of refractive error (RE) and ocular biometrics as risk factors for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) by race/ethnicity. The results showed that while the risks of high myopia and longer axial length were similar for POAG in Latino and Chinese Americans, high myopia was more prevalent among Chinese Americans, resulting in a narrowed difference in POAG prevalence between the two groups.

Summary: The occurrence of dog bites is higher in northern Indigenous communities, with children and males being identified as individual risk factors. Organizational barriers to dog management and lack of access to veterinary services were also identified as contributing factors.

Summary: Dog bites are a major public health issue worldwide, leading to physical and psychological injuries, infections, and other consequences. A study in Chile found that most victims were adult men, the dogs involved were usually medium-sized mixed breeds, known to the victims, and attacks often occurred indoors. Understanding the characteristics of dog bite incidents is crucial for developing effective prevention programs.

Summary: This study revealed a possible relationship between the G661R missense mutation in the ADAMTS10 gene and ocular pulse amplitude (OPA) in a canine model of open-angle glaucoma. Dogs with the mutation displayed higher intraocular pressure (IOP) and lower OPA compared to normal dogs. The findings suggest that OPA may be a valuable clinical tool for assessing ocular stiffness and susceptibility to elevated IOP.

Summary: This study assessed the 10-year incidence of open-angle glaucoma (OAG) and its associations in an adult Chinese population. The findings showed that high myopia was a major risk factor for the development of OAG, with a 7.3-fold risk increase compared to emmetropic eyes. Older age, higher intraocular pressure (IOP), higher vertical cup/disc ratio (VCDR), and thinner central corneal thickness (CCT) were also associated with increased OAG incidence. These findings have implications for clinical protocols and screening strategies.

Summary: Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a severe secondary glaucoma characterized by the presence of new blood vessels over the iris and fibrovascular tissue proliferation in the anterior chamber angle. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) is a major cause of NVG. The increasing population of diabetes has led to a rising prevalence of NVG. The pathogenesis of NVG makes it resistant to standard management for other types of glaucoma. A combination of treatments including panretinal photocoagulation (PRP), anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections, anti-glaucoma drugs, surgery, and blood glucose control is necessary. Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment are crucial for halting neovascularization and preserving vision. This review provides an overview of NVG secondary to diabetic retinopathy (DR) and offers potential therapeutic strategies for future treatment.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence and risk factors associated with ocular neovascularization (NV) in patients with central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO). The results showed that chronic kidney disease (CKD) and glaucoma history were significant risk factors for developing ocular NV after CRAO.

Summary: The study validated the effectiveness of six previously known genetic loci related to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in a Korean population. Variants near CDKN2B-AS1 and SIX1/SIX6 may require further investigation to obtain more genetic information on POAG development in this population.

Summary: This study aims to assess whether the associations between cardiopulmonary conditions and markers and glaucoma differ based on the underlying genetic risk for primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). The results indicate that the relations between systemic conditions and glaucoma vary by the genetic predisposition to POAG.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the virulence of European North Atlantic ranavirus (ENARV) isolates to lumpfish and salmon, as well as horizontal transmission and virus replication. The results showed that different isolates had different virulence to lumpfish, and horizontal transmission was observed, but no clinical impact was demonstrated in cohabitants. Furthermore, the study established guidelines for the diagnosis of ENARV infection and provided a basis for further investigations into virulence markers.

Summary: In recent decades, the infection levels of Contracaecum osculatum, a parasitic nematode, have increased in Eastern Baltic cod. This parasite has a strong preference for the liver of the fish. Previous studies have shown that heavily infected cod display impaired physiological performance, reduced nutritional condition, and signs of liver disease. However, little is known about the pathological changes and inflammatory reactions in the cod liver related to these infections.

Summary: Piscine orthoreovirus genotype 3 (PRV-3) was found in rainbow trout and it was discovered that low water temperature allowed for significantly higher PRV-3 replication in rainbow trout. In addition, more severe heart pathology development was observed in PRV-3 injected fish at low water temperature. These findings align with field observations of disease outbreaks during winter and cold months.

Summary: This study presents the results of an Interlaboratory Proficiency Test (ILPT) for detecting the parasite Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae, the causative agent of proliferative kidney disease (PKD). The study found that the commercial antibody used in immunohistochemistry (IHC) and the optimized real-time PCR protocol both showed good robustness and sensitivity, providing recommendations for harmonizing diagnostic protocols for T. bryosalmonae detection.
