Summary: This study describes the clinical and diagnostic findings, outcome, and pathologic lesions associated with influenza pneumonia in donkeys. The clinical signs of equine influenza virus infection in donkeys are similar to those observed in horses. The prognosis for survival is generally good, but deaths have been observed especially in foals born to seronegative dams, highlighting the importance of prenatal vaccination protocols in all equids, including donkeys.

Summary: Umbilicus assessment is crucial in neonatal clinical examination to detect potential infections. Ultrasound scanning can effectively evaluate umbilical remnants in different animal species, with this study focusing on donkey foals in their first week of life. Results showed a slower regression of umbilical remnants in donkey foals compared to equine foals, emphasizing the importance of considering different species when diagnosing umbilical issues.

Summary: This study compares the survival rates of foals and adults following surgery for colic lesions. The results show that there is no significant difference in short-term survival between foals and adults, possibly due to the impact of decision-making on the farm prior to referral. This suggests that there may be more optimism towards surgical treatment for foals with suspected SISO.

Summary: This report describes the fetoplacental pathology of Chlamydia psittaci-associated reproductive loss in horses. The study confirms the etiological role of C. psittaci in naturally occurring equine reproductive loss and provides insights into the pathological manifestations of the infection in the fetoplacental tissues.

Summary: In this study, a multi-modal deep learning model based on histopathological images and clinical data is proposed to predict the TMB status of colorectal cancer patients. The model outperforms other methods in terms of prediction accuracy and also reveals significant associations between TMB values and tumor stage and N, M stages.

Summary: This study compared insulin sensitivity between neonatal foals and adult horses using the insulin-modified frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance test. The results showed that neonatal foals have higher insulin sensitivity in the first days of life.

Summary: Mare milk and its products have medicinal effects and have been consumed for centuries in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. This study examines the impact of factors such as access to pasture, lactation number, and foal sex on the composition and nutritional value of milk from Sokolski mares. Findings show that mares without pasture access produce milk with higher nutrient content and better fatty acid profiles.

Summary: This paper presents a case of partial lack of the mesocolon in a 7-month-old colt who underwent exploratory laparotomy surgery to diagnose and correct multiple abdominal issues. The foal recovered well post-surgery and showed no complaints from the owner about the treatment results.

Summary: Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasitic coccidian that causes diarrheal illness transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food and water, with high endemicity in tropical and subtropical regions. While found worldwide, cases in developed countries are often linked to travelers and imported produce. The use of highly sensitive molecular diagnostic tests has improved detection of infection and led to increased reporting of cases in developed countries.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of feeding different grains on bacterial diversity, structure, and composition in the foal's stomach content. The results showed that the different grains had no significant effect on microbial diversity, but relative bacterial abundances differed significantly with different diets. Oats significantly increased the abundance of Firmicutes, Lactobacillaceae, Lactobacillus, and Lactobacillus_hayakitensis. The grains had no significant effect on stomach pH, glucose concentration, and enzyme viability in the foal.

Summary: This study described the clinical, histologic, and immunohistochemical findings in individuals who died following CHIKV infection. Most fatal cases had comorbidities and CHIKV antigen was detected in mesenchymal tissues and mononuclear cells. CHIKV infection may rarely cause fatal septic shock and other severe manifestations.

Summary: The study introduced a comprehensive digital pathology solution in a large academic medical center, including a viewer for clinical workflows, research applications, and educational processes, as well as an interconnected tool for compiling and sharing research datasets. The implementation of these solutions led to increased adoption of digital pathology and facilitated next-generation computational pathology for enhanced cancer research.
