Summary: This study found a correlation between single nucleotide polymorphisms in the BAT2 gene and antibody responses to influenza vaccines. The GA + AA genotype of rs1046089 was associated with decreased risk of low responsiveness, while the GA + AA genotype of rs9366785 was associated with increased risk. The haplotype CCAGAG of BAT2 was associated with a higher level of antibody response.

Summary: HLA-G plays a central role in immune tolerance at the maternal-fetal interface and its polymorphism is associated with sHLA-G expression and the risk of recurrent implantation failure (RIF). However, the association of HLA-G polymorphisms with RIF in the general population is unclear and may vary among different ethnic backgrounds. Future studies should consider a combined genetic effect to confirm the association of HLA-G polymorphisms and sHLA-G expressions in relation to RIF.

Summary: This study identified that two novel candidate missense variants, ZBTB46 rs2281929 and IQGAP2 rs2455230, were associated with the immune response to influenza vaccination among the Chinese population. These variants could provide more evidence for future research and the improvement of individualized influenza vaccination programs.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of the 14 bp deletion/insertion polymorphism in exon 8 of the HLA-G gene on preeclampsia risk across different populations. The results suggested that the fetal and paternal insertion variants were associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia, but the maternal polymorphism was not significantly associated. The study also found a significant deleterious impact of the polymorphism on preeclampsia risk in the Asian population.

Summary: HLA-G, a non-classical MHC class I molecule, has been studied for its relevance in pathological conditions like autoimmune diseases. Current research aims to utilize HLA-G in clinical practice for diagnostics and therapeutic purposes, as it is known for its immunomodulatory role in reducing inflammation and immune responses.

Summary: This systematic review investigated the genetic association of gene variants within the HDMTX pathway and their impact on clinical outcomes. Certain SNPs were found to be significantly associated with increased risk of HDMTX toxicity, while others showed a tendency towards decreased toxicity. Additional studies with larger sample sizes are needed to further explore the genetic influences on treatment outcomes.

Summary: This study identified 16 HLA-DRB1 alleles in Colombian women that significantly influence the outcome of Chlamydia trachomatis infection. DRB1*08:02:01G and DRB1*12:01:01G were related to infection-promoting events, while only the DQB1*05:03:01G allele related to clearance/persistence events. Women homozygous for HLA-DRB1 alleles were associated with lower clearance probability and/or early occurrence of persistence.

Summary: This study analyzed 53 articles and found that the cellular immune response after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in kidney transplant recipients was lower compared to dialysis patients and the general population. The response rates, measured by IFN-gamma ELISPOT, IGRA, and flow cytometry, were consistently lower in kidney transplant recipients. Recipients who experienced seroconversion had a higher chance of having a cellular immune response. Age and immunosuppressants containing tacrolimus or corticosteroid were associated with inferior cellular immune response.

Summary: Cytokine biosignatures in the first weeks of life may predict vaccine responsiveness in children during the first year of life. Antibiotic exposure is associated with low vaccine response (LVR) in children. CD4+ T-cell memory induction and antigen-presenting cell deficiencies occur in children with LVR.

Summary: The appearance of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in December 2019 led to the COVID-19 pandemic, but some regions in Africa have reported fewer cases and lower mortality rates. Research suggests that individual HLA alleles may play a role in susceptibility to the virus. Analyzing HLA in COVID-19 cases could help identify high-risk individuals and understand differences in epidemic patterns between countries.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the role of host genetic variants in susceptibility to severe influenza infection through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Only the rs12252 polymorphism showed a significant association with severe influenza, with opposite effects observed in different populations. The study highlights the need for large, hypothesis-free genome-wide association studies to account for the complex interactions between genetic, host, pathogen, and environmental factors.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the impact of hospital mergers on healthcare quality measures (HQM). The results showed no strong evidence to support improvement or worsening of HQM in hospital mergers. However, it was noted that there was a decrease in the number of beds, hospital staff, and inpatient admissions, and an increase in mortality and readmission rate for acute myocardial infarction and stroke after mergers.

Summary: This article discusses the potential of using artificial intelligence tools to automate clinical trial processes, optimize patient selection, matching, and enrollment, and reduce treatment side effects. A scoping review was conducted, and although there is limited evidence on the application of AI in clinical trials, the studies reviewed presented encouraging results. Further research is needed to validate and promote the use of these AI-based tools.

Summary: This study investigated vaccine hesitancy among healthcare workers in Italy. The results showed that around 17% of the respondents had general hesitancy towards vaccination, 32.3% were hesitant about COVID-19 vaccination, and 18.8% refused to comply with public health measures. Increasing fear of COVID-19, recommending COVID-19 vaccination to relatives and patients, having received flu vaccination in the previous year, and higher levels of education were found to have a protective effect against hesitancy. Better knowledge about COVID-19 vaccines and referring to institutional sources were also protective factors. However, increasing age and seeking information from colleagues were positively associated with COVID-19 hesitancy.
