Bacterial ghosts may be generated by the controlled expression of the phiX174 lysis gene E in Gram-negative bacteria and they are intriguing vaccine candidates since ghosts retain functional antigenic cellular determinants often lost during traditional inactivation procedures. The Edwardsiella tarda ghost (ETG) vaccine was prepared using this technology and tested in vaccination trials. Control groups included mice immunized with formalin-killed E tarda (FKC) or mice treated with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), respectively. The results showed that serum IgA and IgG antibody titers were significantly higher in the ETG-vaccinated group compared to the other groups. In addition, CD8+ T cell counts in peripheral blood were elevated in the ETG groups. Most important, ETG-immunized mice were significantly protected against E. tarda challenge (86.7% survival) compared to 73.3 and 33.3% survival in the FKC-immunized and PBS-treated control, respectively, Suggesting that an ETG oral vaccine could confer protection against infection in a mouse model of disease. Unraveling the dynamic changes of high-speed rail network with urban development: Evidence from China

Zhibin Hu, Guangdong Wu, Yilong Han, Yanliang Niu

Summary: This study constructs China's High-Speed Rail (HSR) network using complex network theory and spatial analysis technique. It employs a stochastic actor-oriented model (SAOM) to examine the effects of network structure, attribute-based similarity, and exogenous control variables on the generation of China's HSR network. The findings highlight the role of 3-cycles in the formation of China's HSR network and the influence of GDP similarity and geographical proximity on its evolution, providing insights for urban regional development and HSR planning policies.

Mitochondrial Translocation of P66Shc Aggravates Cisplatin-induced AKI by Promoting Ferroptosis

Ming Yang, Yu-ting Liu, Ya-chun Han, Wei Zhang, Hao Zhang, Shikun Yang

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the regulatory mechanism between P66Shc and ferroptosis in cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (CP-AKI). The results showed that the mitochondrial translocation of P66Shc could result in mitochondrial injury and lipid peroxide accumulation, ultimately leading to ferroptosis and aggravated CP-induced AKI.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the differences in personality traits, defensive styles, and borderline symptoms among first-episode youth patients with depression and self-injury. The results showed that patients with depression and self-injury had higher levels of psychoticism and intermediate defense styles. The frequency of self-injury was negatively correlated with mature defense styles and positively correlated with depressive symptoms and borderline symptoms. Psychoticism and depressive symptoms were identified as independent risk factors for predicting non-suicidal self-injury in patients with depression.

Summary: Malaria-infected erythrocytes and oncofetal CS have distinct tropism and can potentially be used for cancer targeting. Researchers have developed a drug delivery platform using erythrocyte membrane-coated nanoparticles that mimic malaria-infected erythrocytes and specifically target and kill melanoma cells. This biomimetic approach shows potential as a broadly targeted cancer therapy.

Highly efficient ampere-level CO2 reduction to multicarbon products via stepwise hollow-fiber penetration electrodes

Xiao Dong, Shoujie Li, Chang Zhu, Jianing Mao, Gangfeng Wu, Guihua Li, Guanghui Feng, Aohui Chen, Yiheng Wei, Xiaohu Liu, Jiangjiang Wang, Yanfang Song, Wei Chen, Wei Wei

Summary: Efficient C2+ production from CO2 electrocatalytic reduction is achieved using serial Ag and Cu hollow-fiber penetration electrodes, with a partial current density of 1.8 A cm-2 and a faradaic efficiency of 90.5%. The unique penetration effect induced by hierarchical micro/nanostructured hollow fiber configurations and the regulated electronic structures by chloride ion adsorption are responsible for the superior activity. This work provides a facile tactic and encouraging headway in designing efficient CO2 electrocatalytic reduction systems for high-value C2+ chemicals.

Calcium promotes vascular smooth muscle cell phenotypic switching in Marfan syndrome

Yunxiao Yang, Enzehua Xie, Yuhua Liu, Zhan Peng, Cuntao Yu, Kun Hua, Xiubin Yang

Summary: The study found that patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) have elevated blood calcium levels and dyslipidemia. Increased calcium concentration is associated with promoted vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotype switching in MFS. SERCA may become a novel therapeutic target for suppressing aneurysm progression in MFS.

Quadruple modification for constructing ultra-stable lithium-rich cathodes

Chaoliang Zheng, Jiameng Feng, Zhicheng Wei, Da Zhang, Jianling Li

Summary: In this study, Eu was used to modify Li1.2Mn0.54Co0.13Ni0.13O2 for lithium-rich cathode, significantly improving its redox activity and structural stability. The doping of Eu resulted in the formation of Eu2O3 modified layer at the interface and heterogenous structure of rock-salt phase, effectively preventing structural degradation during long-term cycling. Ex-situ methods were used to analyze charge compensation mechanism, phase structure transition pattern, anion behavior, and CEI evolution. This simple modification method provides guidance for enhancing the performance of lithium-rich cathode materials.
