A double antibody sandwich ELISA for quantification of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) whole virus particle was developed using two monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against FIVID virus (FMDV) serotype O and A. The antibody binding epitopes were characterized. The two mAbs reacted with all of the tested FMDV strains. The use of these two mAbs in the sandwich ELISA will allow the quantification of FMD whole virus particles during vaccine manufacture. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
