Summary: This article evaluates the use and outcomes of cystectomy for benign indications, finding that patient satisfaction is high and functional outcomes are good. The importance of cystectomy in the treatment of benign disease is evident, but further research is needed to guide patient decision-making and understand the long-term impact of surgery.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed 198 patients who underwent radical cystectomy for bladder cancer and found that intraoperative or postoperative blood transfusion, postoperative urinary tract infection, and extracorporeal bladder anastomosis increased the risk of benign uretero-ileal anastomotic stricture (UIAS) after surgery.

Summary: Robotic assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with intracorporeal urinary diversion (ICUD) has become increasingly popular for treating aggressive bladder cancer, showing oncologic adequacy and survival comparable to open radical cystectomy despite technical challenges. Surgeons note ergonomic advantages and faster recovery times with RARC, while there is a need for more data on outcomes of ICUD and cost-effectiveness analyses. This review represents 10 years of accumulating data on techniques and outcomes of RARC with ICUD.

Summary: This study compared robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with intracorporeal urinary diversion (ICUD) and open radical cystectomy (ORC) for the treatment of bladder cancer. The results showed that RARC with ICUD was associated with lower overall mortality, fewer high-grade complications, and more favorable perioperative outcomes compared to ORC.

Summary: This study analyzed the learning curve for robot-assisted radical cystectomy with total intracorporeal urinary diversion. The findings showed that a surgeon needs to perform at least 30 consecutive surgeries to achieve an acceptable level of surgical quality, while it takes at least 140 consecutive surgeries to improve time efficiency.

Summary: This review summarizes the literature on partial and complete bladder removal surgeries in dogs and draws relevant conclusions. Excision of bladder tumors can prolong survival time and improve quality of life, although there is a significant risk of complications, especially with complete bladder removal. However, for dogs with urothelial carcinoma, surgical removal of the tumor is usually not curative and disease progression is common. Successful outcomes require appropriate case selection and thorough discussion with owners about the potential risks and benefits of surgery.

Summary: This study compared ureteroenteric stricture rates after radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion versus other surgical approaches. The results did not show significant differences in outcomes between intracorporeal urinary diversion and extracorporeal urinary diversion, but the small sample size could not exclude the possibility of a type 2 statistical error.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the midterm functional outcomes and complications of robot-assisted laparoscopic cystectomy with non-continent urinary diversion in patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction. The results showed that this surgery can provide mid-term protection of the upper urinary tract and improve the quality of life in patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the perioperative and functional outcomes of radical cystectomy and urinary diversion in patients with a single kidney compared to those with double kidneys. The results showed that patients with a single kidney had a longer length of hospital stay and greater decline in glomerular filtration rate, but similar rates of complications, readmission, and mortality compared to patients with double kidneys. Continent urinary diversion in single kidney patients was as safe as in double kidney patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the oncological and perioperative outcomes of a large cohort of patients who underwent robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with intracorporeal urinary diversion (ICUD). The results showed that RARC with ICUD is feasible as a standard surgical procedure for bladder cancer, with only a few patients converted to open surgery. Reconstruction with a neobladder was identified as a strong predictor for high-grade complications.

Summary: Robot-assisted radical cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion (ICUD) is a safe and feasible alternative to extracorporeal urinary diversion (ECUD), associated with reduced blood transfusion and lower 90-day complications. Further high-quality studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of ICUD in terms of oncologic outcomes, functional outcomes, cost, and quality of life.

Summary: This study aimed to pilot the feasibility of recording healthcare workers' perceptions of daily, work-related interference with toilet use using a cellular, text-based survey tool. Increased work burden was provisionally found to be associated with fewer voids per day. Participants reported that the study was easy to participate in and did not interfere with work.

Summary: Women with OAB commonly use compensatory coping behaviors, which are associated with greater urinary symptom severity, higher anxiety, and stress levels. Further research is needed to understand the relationship between coping behaviors and psychosocial factors, as they may offer important opportunities for interventions.

Summary: Women with genitourinary pain in interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) are at a higher risk of depression compared to those without genitourinary pain. However, there is limited research on the relationship between IC/BPS and psychological distress. This study examined the relationship between compensatory coping behaviors and psychological distress in women with IC/BPS, providing insights into risk factors and potential intervention mechanisms.

Summary: This study suggests that hypnosis has the potential to significantly improve lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in individuals with chronic pain, even when pain reduction is not significant. The results provide initial evidence for the treatment potential of hypnosis in urologic pain (and possibly non-pain/benign) populations, but randomized trials are needed for definitive outcomes.
