Summary: The study found that high NLR before and after radiotherapy was associated with poor survival in patients with anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), indicating the importance of host immunity in ATC patients. This suggests that this finding may provide important information for designing future investigations on the impact of immune system modulating therapy in ATC.

Summary: In RCC patients undergoing laparoscopic partial or radical nephrectomy, NLR and PLR were identified as biomarkers of systemic inflammation associated with increased risk of sarcopenia. The best cutoff points for predicting sarcopenia risk were NLR >2.88 and PLR >135.63, with higher levels indicating a greater risk. Adjusting for various variables, patients with NLR >2.88 and PLR >135.63 had significantly higher risks of developing sarcopenia compared to those with lower NLR or PLR levels.

Summary: Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab has been approved as the first-line treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. This study examined the efficacy and safety of this treatment in real-world clinical practice and found that it is effective and well-tolerated. In addition, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were identified as independent prognostic factors for progression-free survival (PFS).

Summary: This meta-analysis supports the association between depression and inflammation, with NLR being a potential indicator of depression. However, no significant differences were found in PLR and MLR values between depressed subjects and controls. Further large-scale studies are needed to evaluate the role of PLR and MLR in depression.

Summary: Inflammatory processes play a crucial role in the development and progression of coronary artery disease, and environmental factors such as hyperglycaemia, hyperlipidaemia, or smoking promote endothelial dysfunction, leading to inflammation and further vascular wall injury. The assessment of inflammatory response is of great value in the management of coronary artery disease.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of sarcopenia and the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as predictors of therapeutic efficacy in patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) who received pembrolizumab after platinum-based chemotherapy. The results showed that patients with sarcopenia and a high rate of change of NLR had poorer response to pembrolizumab and shorter progression-free survival. The presence of immune-related adverse events and the rate of change of NLR were identified as independent predictors of progression-free survival.

Summary: This study found that pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) can independently predict tumor regression grade (TRG) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer. Patients with high NLR and PLR values may benefit from alternative treatments.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the prognostic impact of postoperative neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on survival outcomes in upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). Data from 397 patients who underwent radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) without neoadjuvant chemotherapy were analyzed. The results showed that high postoperative NLR was an independent predictor of worse overall and cancer-specific survival in UTUC patients.

Summary: This study described the differences in mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet count, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) between patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls, and examined their correlation with the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP). The results showed that patients with schizophrenia had higher MPV levels than healthy controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. Additionally, DUP did not have a significant correlation with the blood parameters analyzed.

Summary: 4-Hydroxycoumarin has an impact on the behavior of HepG2 cells, including viability, proliferation, adhesion, and gene expression. It decreases proliferation and viability of HepG2 cells while increasing cell adhesion. The expression of genes Ki-67, MMP-2, MMP-9, and piR-823 is regulated by 4-Hydroxycoumarin. The findings suggest that 4-Hydroxycoumarin could be useful in treating hepatocellular carcinoma.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate vitamin K levels in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and their relationship with pain, disease activity, quality of life, and inflammatory cytokines. The results showed no significant differences in vitamin K levels between the FMS group and the control group, and no relationships were found between vitamin K levels and pain, disease activity, quality of life, and inflammatory cytokines. However, high levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha were observed in the FMS group, indicating a potential association between low-intensity inflammation and FMS.

Summary: This study compared the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes of 27 subacute thyroiditis (SAT) patients (13 vaccine-associated and 14 non-SARS-CoV-2-infection non-vaccine-associated) with those of 362 healthy donors. It found that the A*11-B*35-C*04 haplotype, including all three loci of MHC class I genes, was associated with the disease, especially in the vaccine-associated SAT group. This finding contributes to a better understanding of the etiopathogenesis of vaccine-associated SAT and the role of HLA genotypes in the functioning mechanisms of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.

Summary: In this study, the effects of piR-823 inhibition on the genetic parameters of proliferation and ER alpha status in MDA-MB-231 cells were investigated. The results showed that piR-823 inhibition led to an increase in ERa expression and a decrease in hTERT expression. Additionally, the inhibition also affected the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and miR-126 expression. These findings highlight the importance of piRNAs in regulating cellular characteristics of triple negative breast cancer cells, and suggest that piRNA expression changes may impact miRNA expressions.
