Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis of gastric pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemistry and HER2 gene testing were conducted for seven cases of gastric pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma, and the results showed large heterogeneity in HER2 protein expression and amplification. It is crucial to clarify the histopathological features of this type of tumor for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Summary: This study characterized the cytologic, pathologic, and immunohistochemical aspects of feline giant-cell sarcoma. The main subtype affecting cats was the giant-cell type, with multinucleated giant cells among spindle-shaped cells. Immunohistochemical labeling for vimentin and Iba-1 was strongly positive, while desmin/actin showed variable labeling and S-100 was negative in all samples.

Summary: This article presents three cases of primary giant cell tumors of the lung in male patients aged between 43 and 54 years, who presented with nonspecific symptoms. After surgery, two patients were followed up for 12 months without evidence of recurrence or metastasis. These cases represent an unusual occurrence that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of primary pulmonary tumors rich in multinucleated giant cells.

Summary: Pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma is a morphological pattern within the spectrum of undifferentiated and sarcomatoid carcinoma, which can originate in any organ system. The tumors are divided into monomorphic and pleomorphic subtypes, with different genetic alterations and aggressive behaviors associated with each subtype.

Summary: This study investigated the histotypes of canine mammary carcinomas with vacuolated cytoplasm, confirming the presence of lipid-rich carcinoma, glycogen-rich carcinoma, and carcinoma-and-malignant myoepithelioma. The study highlights the diversity and potential pathological features of canine mammary tumors, indicating the importance of considering different histological types in the differential diagnosis.

Summary: A 60-year-old male patient with Secretory Carcinoma (SC) was diagnosed based on pathological examination of tumor cells secreting eosinophilic material. The immunohistochemical panel confirmed the diagnosis as Secretory Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (SCXPA) due to the positivity for specific markers.

Summary: Primary lung carcinomas are mainly represented by adenocarcinomas or squamous cell carcinomas. However, there are other types of non-small cell carcinomas that are uncommon but important. The classification of these tumors is currently ambiguous and possibly outdated, making it more difficult. Immunohistochemical stains also pose challenges in the classification. Accurate classification is crucial for molecular analysis and targeted treatment. This review highlights the shortcomings in current classification and the impact of immunohistochemical stains.

Summary: This study reports on the clinicopathologic features of 27 cases of pleomorphic giant cell carcinoma (PGCC) of the prostate. PGCC is a rare and aggressive subtype of prostate carcinoma, and its recognition may lead clinicians to adopt more aggressive treatments and investigate new therapeutic strategies.

Summary: Imaging techniques were used to study the three-dimensional microanatomy and spatiotemporal relationships of cells, extracellular matrix, and vasculature at the corneo-scleral limbus of developing and mature chicken eyes. Results showed the development of structures similar to Palisades of Vogt, associated with characteristics of stem cells, and direct cell-cell associations between corneal epithelial and stromal cells.

Summary: Spirostomum, a giant single-celled eukaryote, demonstrates one of the fastest movements in the biological world. Its ultrafast contraction relies on Ca2+ instead of ATP, distinguishing it from the actin-myosin system in muscles. By analyzing the high-quality genome of Spirostomum minus, we identified key molecular components of its contractile apparatus, including two major Ca2+ binding proteins (Spasmin 1 and 2) and two giant proteins (GSBP1 and GSBP2) that form a complex allowing for repetitive ultrafast cell contraction and extension. These findings enhance our understanding of Ca2+-dependent ultrafast movement and offer insights for future biomimicry and construction of similar micro-machines.

Summary: Primary mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (MCA) is a rare subtype of breast carcinoma that shares similarities with mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary and pancreas. Despite the lack of expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER-2, as well as high Ki67, primary breast MCAs generally have a favorable prognosis. Only 36 cases have been reported in the literature so far, making the histological diagnosis challenging due to its ambiguous morpho-phenotypic profile. It is important to differentiate it from typical mucin-producing breast carcinomas and metastases from the same histotype in other sites.

Summary: This thematic review provides an overview of the current state of knowledge about the occurrence of giant mitochondria in liver parenchymal cells. The presence and accumulation of giant mitochondria are considered to be a major pathological hallmark of liver parenchymal cells, leading to tissue deterioration and organ failure. The origin, formation, and potential role of giant mitochondria remain largely unanswered, as well as the impact of crystal-like inclusions on mitochondrial function. The review discusses concepts about their formation mechanism and architecture, along with their importance in diagnostics and potential therapeutic interventions.
