Summary: This study evaluated TVUS findings in patients who underwent rectosigmoid resection for DIE, finding a high percentage of adhesions and recurrence of posterior DIE. Adenomyosis was observed in 80% of women, indicating its potential link to postoperative symptoms. This suggests that postoperative TVUS can be useful for detecting persistent disease or pelvic adhesions in symptomatic patients.

Summary: The prevalence of endometrioma and deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) in women with subfertility undergoing their first assisted reproductive treatment, as assessed by systematic transvaginal ultrasound examination, was 21.8%. The majority of women with endometriosis were unaware of their condition.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the clinical and histopathological features of peritoneal endometriosis (PEM) and deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE). The main distribution of PEM and DIE was located in the posterior pelvic cavity, and different morphological lesions had different invasiveness rates and depths of invasion to the peritoneum. The Ki-67 expression of DIE in endometrioid glandular epithelium was significantly higher than that in other PEM lesions.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of the sliding sign on transvaginal ultrasound in detecting pouch of Douglas obliteration and bowel involvement in patients with suspected endometriosis, using laparoscopy as the reference standard. The results showed that the sliding sign had good diagnostic performance for predicting pouch of Douglas obliteration and bowel involvement.

Summary: This narrative review examines the role of transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) in the diagnosis and assessment of endometriosis. It presents evidence that TVS is a non-inferior imaging modality to MRI for diagnosing and assessing deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE). The review also highlights the use of TVS in the non-invasive staging of endometriosis using available classification systems, such as rASRM and #ENZIAN. Due to its satisfactory overall diagnostic accuracy, wide availability, and low cost, TVS should be considered as the first-line imaging modality for endometriosis.

Summary: In this retrospective study, MRI was found to have high diagnostic accuracy for pelvic deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE), especially when strict diagnostic criteria were applied. This suggests that MRI can serve as a method to confirm clinically suspected DIE.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the validity of transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS) in preoperative staging of uterine cancer in comparison to pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and permanent section. The results showed that TVS has a performance that approaches MRI in evaluating myometrial invasion and cervical involvement, with a higher agreement in the assessment of cervical invasion.

Summary: This study assessed the diagnostic accuracy of transvaginal sonography (TVS) and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for deep infiltrated endometriosis (DIE). The results showed that TVS is a reliable tool for diagnosing ovarian endometriomas, while MRI is generally more effective in evaluating the severity of endometriosis. However, TVS demonstrates comparable diagnostic accuracy to MRI in diagnosing DIE.

Summary: Endometriosis and adenomyosis can cause pain, infertility, and obstetric complications in young women. Studies have shown associations between these conditions and preterm birth, cesarean section delivery, and placental abnormalities. However, more research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and establish causality, as many studies did not properly adjust for confounding factors.

Summary: This study aims to draw attention to the outcomes of adolescent pregnancies. It was found that adolescent pregnant women have poor overall neonatal outcomes, small neonatal head circumference, and are more likely to experience neonatal hypoglycemia, the need for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and late-onset neonatal sepsis. Therefore, it is important to focus on the outcomes of adolescent pregnancies and provide family planning and baby care social trainings.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the role of intrapartum ultrasound in diagnosing asynclitism and the importance of the degree of asynclitism in labor outcomes. A cohort study was conducted on 41 low-risk pregnant women with singleton-vertex fetus. Severe and moderate asynclitism was observed in 41.7% and 58.8% of women, respectively. Severe asynclitism was associated with increased operative birth and maternal-fetal complications. Detection of asynclitism degree by intrapartum ultrasound could be useful in alerting the obstetrics team to potential perinatal problems during delivery.

Summary: The investigation studied the reduction of enkephalinergic neuro fibers (En) in the Lower Uterine Segment (LUS) during prolonged dystocic labor (PDL) with Labor Neuraxial Analgesia (LNA). The study compared LUS samples obtained from emergency cesarean section (CS) cases of 38 patients with PDL to elective CS cases of 37 patients. The results showed a significant reduction in En in the LUS of the PDL group, indicating that the drugs used during LNA may not effectively control the dystocic pain.

Summary: The aim of this study was to verify the efficacy and safety of local anesthesia during Altis (R) single incision placement for stress urinary incontinence. The results showed that local anesthesia had a good objective and subjective cure rate, with shorter operative time compared to spinal anesthesia. There were no significant differences in cure rate and postoperative complications between the two anesthesia methods. Therefore, local anesthesia may be considered a safe alternative to spinal anesthesia for Altis (R) implantation, allowing for outpatient procedures.

Summary: There is limited evidence-based data for endometriosis management, and experiments without adequate animal models are excluded. The available data are limited to symptomatic women and occasional observations. Hormonal medical therapy cannot be blinded if recognised by the patient. Randomised controlled trials are not realistic for surgery due to the variable nature and low numbers of endometriosis cases. Each diagnosis and treatment is an experiment with an outcome, and experience plays a crucial role in Bayesian updating.

Summary: This observational prospective study aimed to determine whether performing myomectomy in patients over 40 years old with symptomatic uterine fibroids and desiring future fertility would have better surgical and reproductive outcomes. The study included laparoscopic intracapsular myomectomy (LIM), open laparotomy (OIM), and non-surgical management as a control group. The results showed that there were no significant differences in reproductive outcomes between operated and non-operated patients, indicating that myomectomy in patients over 40 years old did not have a detrimental effect on future pregnancy rates compared to expectant management.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the acceptance of both translabial and transabdominal intrapartum ultrasound (IU) in the delivery ward.
