Combined training improves the diagnostic measures of sarcopenia and decreases the inflammation in HIV-infected individuals

Summary: This study found that a 6-month combined training intervention can significantly improve muscle mass, grip strength, gait speed, and inflammatory markers in HIV patients. Additionally, the combined training can increase the levels of growth hormone IGF-1 and decrease myostatin levels.

The pathways involved in cachexia/malnutrition and PEW are common, but the specific conditions in kidney diseases justify the term PEW.

Clinical Performance of Self-Collected Nasal Swabs and Antigen Rapid Tests for SARS-CoV-2 Detection in Resource-Poor Settings

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of nasal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 detection in resource-poor settings and assessed the clinical performance of three nasal swab-based antigen rapid tests. The results showed that nasal swabs had slightly lower sensitivity compared to oropharyngeal swabs, and the COVIOS Ag-RDT did not meet the requirements set by the WHO. Nasal swab-based antigen rapid tests are a viable and accurate diagnostic option in resource-poor settings.

Summary: In resource-limited settings, HIV testing is lacking among high-risk key populations due to stigma, discrimination, and lack of confidentiality. Wider accessibility of HIV self-testing (HIV-ST) is needed to reach those who may not have access to testing. HIV-ST has the potential to improve access to testing among high-risk populations and their partners, but implementation barriers need to be addressed for effective policy implementation.

Risk-based surveillance of chronic wasting disease in semi-domestic reindeer

Summary: The practice of reindeer pastoralism is threatened by an outbreak of CWD among wild reindeer. Developing a surveillance system tailored to semi-domestic reindeer herding can improve efficiency and reduce invasiveness, enabling early disease detection and mitigation. Management systems and surveillance methods need to be adapted to different epidemiological settings to effectively monitor and control CWD in reindeer populations.

Epidemiological differences between sexes affect management efficacy in simulated chronic wasting disease systems

Summary: Sex-based differences can influence disease prevalence, and the higher prevalence in one gender may be due to exposure rather than transmission. In the case of chronic wasting disease (CWD), simulations showed that different transmission scenarios can result in higher male prevalence. Harvest-based management strategies targeting the gender responsible for disease transmission are effective in controlling CWD epidemics.

Fuzzy Theory in Fog Computing: Review, Taxonomy, and Open Issues
