Summary: This study identified a case of Cache Valley virus infection transmitted through blood transfusion and emphasized the consideration of arboviral infections in patients with meningoencephalitis after blood transfusion or organ transplantation. The use of metagenomic next-generation sequencing can facilitate the preliminary diagnosis of rare, unexpected infections, particularly in immunocompromised patients.

Summary: In this article, a new hybrid controller is proposed to balance the immune response and antiviral treatment in renal transplanted recipients' treatment. The control strategy tracks demanded values to ensure kidney transplantation success and prevent infection with the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Different modes including immunosuppressive treatment, dual treatment, and antiviral cut-off modes are studied to investigate the coupled nonlinear dynamics of the immune response and HCMV infection. The developed control scheme is proven to be effective through simulation studies.

Summary: In Tunisia, rabies is an endemic disease primarily transmitted by dogs, and vaccinating dogs is crucial for its eradication. The FAVN technique was used to evaluate rabies immunity in dogs from different Tunisian areas following a mass vaccination campaign. The results showed that a single vaccination stimulated a good immune response, but primary-vaccinated dogs should receive a booster between one and three months after the initial vaccination to maintain protective immunity. All dogs should receive an annual booster to achieve effective immunological protection and ultimately eliminate rabies.

Summary: Pediatric kidney transplant recipients face challenges such as long-term graft function, the impact of CKD on neurodevelopment, and the changing immune environment. Graft failure rates are highest during adolescence and young adulthood, with factors like poor adherence to treatment and transitioning to adult care playing a role.

Summary: Patients with end-stage kidney disease have a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death for them. Optimizing cardiovascular health before renal transplant can improve post-transplant outcomes. Various cardiovascular assessments and management strategies, including evaluating coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, impaired ventricular function, valvular disease, lifestyle factors, and pulmonary arterial hypertension, are important considerations for renal transplant candidates. This review aims to provide a foundation for implementing an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol for renal transplantation centers.

Summary: Through analysis of UK Transplant Registry data, this study finds that prolonged delayed graft function (DGF) is associated with adverse long-term outcomes, suggesting that alloimmunity may contribute to prolonged DGF by a mechanism distinct from typical early acute rejection.

Summary: A 75-year-old woman with persistent pancytopenia and fever nine years after a kidney transplant was diagnosed with cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and visceral leishmaniasis. This is the first report in Portugal of a kidney transplant recipient presenting with the full spectrum of leishmaniasis. High clinical suspicion is required for diagnosis of this rare infection, especially in endemic regions where visceral leishmaniasis can be life-threatening.

Summary: This study assessed the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in a Georgia school district. The results showed that indoor sports activities, staff meetings/lunches, and elementary school classrooms were high-risk environments for transmission, and staff members and symptomatic index cases were more likely to cause transmission. Preventing staff infections and conducting contact tracing are critical to reducing in-school transmission.

Summary: Mammal-associated coronaviruses, particularly those found in bat populations, have a long evolutionary history and are likely ancestral origins of coronavirus-associated epidemics and pandemics. Conducting coronavirus research in Georgia is crucial for completing the coronavirus diversity map in the region. A survey in bat populations in Georgia revealed multiple novel species and subgenus of coronaviruses.

Summary: Accurate host identification is crucial for understanding disease epidemiology and implementing control measures. This study suggests prioritizing a standardized protocol that includes taxonomic keys at a family or subfamily level for initial classification, followed by molecular characterization of the host species. The researchers applied simple and inexpensive methods to confirm the initial classification.
