Strain-dependent stress relaxation behavior of healthy right ventricular free wall

The RVFW exhibited an anisotropic and strain-dependent viscoelastic behavior. The nonlinear viscoelastic (NLV) model showed higher capability in predicting strain-dependent stress relaxation than the quasi-linear viscoelastic (QLV) model.

Beds, overlays and mattresses for preventing and treating pressure ulcers: an overview of Cochrane Reviews and network meta-analysis

The results suggest that reactive air surfaces may be more effective in preventing pressure ulcers compared to foam surfaces. Further research is needed to determine the relative effectiveness of other support surfaces for preventing and treating pressure ulcers.

Physical Activity Tracking Among Sri Lankan Adults: Findings From a 7-Year Follow-up of the Ragama Health Study

Summary: Limited data are available on physical activity tracking among adults in low- and middle-income countries, prompting a longitudinal study in Sri Lanka to assess trends and correlates of physical activity. Findings show that 40% of participants maintained recommended physical activity levels over time, with one-fifth increasing activity. Factors associated with persistent activity include male sex, lower education and income, absence of chronic diseases, good self-rated health, and sitting time <8 hours. Public health interventions are needed to support maintenance of physical activity levels, especially for high-risk subgroups.

However, both moderate-severe and intermediate NAFLD were associated with higher prevalence of adverse anthropometric and metabolic traits, identifying individuals who may require medical intervention even among those with milder degrees of fatty liver.

Individuals excluded by the NAFLD definition but captured by the MAFLD definition showed a higher risk of adverse outcomes compared to those excluded by the MAFLD definition but captured by the NAFLD definition.

Maternal postpartum deworming and infant milk intake: Secondary outcomes from a trial

Summary: The World Health Organization recommends deworming to reduce soil-transmitted helminth (STH)-attributable morbidity in women of reproductive age. A study in Peru assessed the impact of postpartum deworming on infant milk intake, but found no significant difference in milk intake between the albendazole and placebo groups at 1- and 6-month postpartum. Infants born to mothers with Trichuris trichiura infection had higher milk intakes, but infection intensity did not significantly affect milk intake.

Summary: Investment in SARS-CoV-2 sequencing in Africa has led to a significant increase in the number of sequences available for tracking the pandemic on the continent, surpassing 100,000 genomes. The study highlights the advantages of local sequencing in terms of faster turnaround times and routine surveillance. The findings underscore the heterogeneous nature of the pandemic and shed light on the dispersal dynamics of variants of concern in Africa.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the etiology of acute febrile illness by using a semi-quantitative PCR in a modular format to detect bloodborne pathogens. A case-control study will be conducted in Iquitos, Loreto, Peru, involving the collection of blood, saliva, and nasal swabs for testing. The results of this study will provide a more accurate understanding of the main pathogens causing acute febrile illness.

Eliminating morbidity caused by neglected tropical diseases by 2030

Summary: This manuscript presents the work of the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Parasite Epidemiology and Control, which aligns its activities with the Sustainable Development Goals and the WHO Road Map for Neglected Tropical Diseases 2021-2030. The centre contributes to global action on NTDs through policy development and knowledge translation. Three important projects have been recently completed, focusing on monitoring and evaluation framework, guideline development, and policy brief formulation. These projects involve multiple partners and aim to eliminate NTD-attributable morbidity by 2030.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence of stunting, anemia, and soil-transmitted helminth infections in preschool-age children in a poor district in the Peruvian Amazon. The study found higher rates of these conditions compared to regional and national estimates. Several risk factors were identified.
