Summary: Iron and steel production accounts for 7% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Previous studies have found that the long lifespan of steel production equipment hinders decarbonization efforts. However, estimates show that the emissions from current primary steel equipment are significantly lower than previously thought. Future emissions from steel production will depend on the adoption of new technologies, renewable energy sources, and decreases in steel and energy demand.

Summary: Pubertal timing is earlier in Silver Russell syndrome (SRS), especially in cases with maternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 7 (mUPD7) compared to 11p15 loss of methylation (11p15 LOM). The impact of early puberty on adult height and metabolic status needs further evaluation.

Summary: This study presents an experimental determination of refrigerant charge and operating conditions in a vertical display refrigerator with R134a, R513A, and R1234yf. Results show a recommended charge of 175g for all three refrigerants, with electric energy consumption increasing as ambient temperature rises. Compared to R134a, R513A has lower energy input at different ambient temperatures.

Summary: In 2023, the European Union will vote on the reauthorization of glyphosate use, and our study investigated citizens' preferences for phasing out glyphosate. While the general public initially supported a ban, our experimental results showed a preference for earmarked taxation schemes that led to a strong reduction in glyphosate use with a smaller increase in food price compared to a ban. This suggests that when weighing glyphosate reduction against its costs, a tax may be a preferred alternative to a ban.

Summary: This study examined the burden of cigarette smoking and access to tobacco by youth in South-East Asia (SEA). The findings showed that smoking prevalence was higher among boys than girls and varied across different countries. Most youths obtained cigarettes from stores or other sources, and financial access had a limited influence on cigarette smoking. Despite legal restrictions, students could still obtain cigarettes from vendors.

Summary: The prohibition of old wood stoves in Sweden sparked public protests because heating through fire-making is deeply connected to various social and emotional needs, as well as survival in cold areas. The protesters, although concerned about sustainability, value the continued use of functional devices more.

Summary: This study compares the operating characteristics of different refrigerants in light commercial refrigeration and finds that using pure R1234ze(E) and R1234ze(E)-R134a blends as a replacement for R134a is a suitable short-term solution.

Summary: This study investigates the difference of radiographic measures of tumor aggressiveness by smoking status in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The results show that never-smokers have lower median SUVmax and longer median VDT compared to smokers. However, when adjusting for age, sex, and tumor histology, there is no significant difference in SUVmax and VDT by smoking status. Smoking history does not influence VDT or PET SUVmax measures of lung cancer aggressiveness.

Summary: This study found that immigrants in the United States are exposed to slightly higher levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) compared to US-born individuals, resulting in higher premature mortality rates. Disparities between immigrant groups were more pronounced among those originating from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Time since immigration did not significantly impact these disparities.

Summary: Out-of-pocket payments for consultations, diagnostic tests, and drug prescriptions are important for patients with noncommunicable diseases in Albania. The cost of drugs accounts for a significant proportion of household expenditures. Patients with health insurance have fewer out-of-pocket expenses. Elderly and urban residents have lower payment burdens. Patients facing barriers to care are more likely to have out-of-pocket expenses for consultations and tests.

Summary: This study utilized the 2SFCA method to assess the spatial distribution and changes of urban parks within the Sixth Ring Road in Beijing over 15 years. The results indicated an overall increase in park accessibility in terms of quantity and proximity, though inequities in distribution still exist. Proper urban green space planning based on population density and urban land use is crucial in addressing these issues.
