Summary: Developing ethanol sensors with high sensitivity and low detection temperature is of great significance. The Au-supported material on mesoporous ZnO composites derived from a metal-organic framework ZIF-8 showed promising results, with the Au/ZnO-1.0 sensor having a response factor of 37.74 for 100 ppm ethanol at 250 degrees C. The sensor also exhibited good selectivity for ethanol, with adsorption energy significantly higher than that of pure ZnO and other gases.

Summary: Zn(salen)-type Schiff-base complexes exhibit Lewis acidic character, leading to the formation of responsive supramolecular nanostructures and compounds with sensing properties. These sensing properties are mainly achieved through optical spectroscopic changes associated with the addition of Lewis bases.

Summary: This computational study investigates the sensing ability of Zn3O3 and Mg-containing Zn3O3 structures for CO2 molecules using the SERS technique. The results show that CO2 adsorbed at the Mg site of Zn3O3Mg exhibits significant enhancement in the symmetric vibrational mode, indicating that Zn3O3Mg is a good substrate for CO2 sensing. These findings are supported by frequency-dependent polarizabilities and charge transfer interactions.

Summary: In this research, Zn1-xAlxO thin films with varying proportions of Al were prepared and characterized for their crystal structure, morphology, and humidity-sensing properties. The results showed that increasing the Al-doping concentration led to larger crystallite sizes, changes in surface morphology, and improved humidity sensing performance.

Summary: This article demonstrates the application of three specific gas sensing constructs in H-2 sensors: zinc oxide nanostructures, noble metal nanoparticles-decorated zinc oxide, and noble metal nanoparticles-decorated zinc oxide nanostructures. The use of noble metal nanoparticles on zinc oxide nanostructures enhances H-2 sensing characteristics through the Spill-over mechanism, which is crucial for designing selective and sensitive gas sensors.

Summary: Pristine ZnO and iron-doped ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by precipitation route. The chemical structure of the samples was analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis, EDX, and XPS. The results showed that the iron-doped ZnO nanoparticles had a hexagonal structure, with increasing Fe content leading to higher lattice strain and smaller crystallite size. UV-vis absorption spectroscopy revealed a decrease in energy gap with increasing Fe content. Photoluminescence spectrometry indicated the presence of numerous recombination faults and sites. Magnetization measurements demonstrated ferromagnetism in the Fe-doped ZnO nanoparticles. These findings have important implications for the use of iron-doped ZnO nanoparticles in optoelectronic and spintronic applications.

Summary: Reusable face masks are a cost-effective alternative to disposable and surgical face masks during pandemics. This study demonstrates the development of self-cleaning fibers by incorporating a photocatalyst onto silicone-based fibrous membranes. The functionalized fibers exhibit degradation of photo-sensitive dye, antibacterial properties, as well as good air permeability and filtration efficiency.

Summary: Establishing structure-activity relationship is crucial for designing catalysts with low energy consumption and high efficiency in advanced oxidation processes. This study investigates the atomic mechanism of hydrogen peroxide dissociation and formation on different zinc chalcogenides. The catalytic activity of hydrogen peroxide on zinc chalcogenides is determined by the surface micro-engineering construction including surface orientation and heteroatomic doping. These findings not only provide a better understanding of the mechanism of hydrogen peroxide on zinc chalcogenides, but also offer guidance for the development of new catalytic oxidation systems.

Summary: In this study, electronic and magnetic properties of transition metal ion-doped monolayer zinc oxide were analyzed using ab-initio calculations based on density functional theory. The results showed that these dopants can induce stable ferromagnetic ordering and exhibit half-metallic behavior in ML-ZnO. Additionally, co-doping can modify the properties of the pristine system.

Summary: Monitoring pH variations is crucial in medical diagnostics and healthcare devices. In this study, an electrochemical pH sensor based on nitrogen-doped zinc oxide nanosheets was developed, which showed improved performance due to the incorporation of nitrogen and increased surface area. The sensor was fabricated using a simple mask-printing technique and exhibited enhanced sensitivity, flexibility, and a smaller volume requirement for testing fluid.

Summary: In this study, it is found that defects such as zinc and oxygen vacancies, as well as adsorbed oxygen, can restore the wurtzite structure and piezoelectric response of freestanding 2D ZnO sheets. These findings provide a methodology for screening piezoelectric properties of other materials and demonstrate that defects can be used to restore the wurtzite structure and dielectric properties of ultrathin 2D ZnO sheets for nanoscale piezoelectric devices.
