Summary: In this study, low temperature AlN deposition was achieved on Si(100), Si(111), and 4H-SiC substrates using a metal precursor with high thermal stability and a highly reactive nitrogen source. Two different processes, a 580°C pulsed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and a more complex 400°C atomic layer annealing process, were compared. Both processes showed comparable enhancement in crystallinity of the subsequently sputtered AlN films.

Summary: Graphene was directly grown on TiO2 substrates using chemical vapor deposition. Characterization techniques including Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy were employed to analyze the graphene-TiO2 samples. The results demonstrated the wide coverage of graphene on TiO2, but achieving uniform thickness throughout the substrate remains challenging.

Summary: Undoped Y2O3 polycrystals were densified by flash sintering under DC or AC electric field with varying holding times up to 60 min. The chemical bonding state and crystal structure were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. DC flash sintering with longer holding times (>= 30 min) resulted in blackening in cathodic regions, indicating the electrode-dependent introduction of neutral oxygen vacancies. The Y 3d3/2 and Y 3d5/2 binding energies decreased with increasing holding time in both DC- and AC-flash-sintered Y2O3 specimens, regardless of polarity, indicating that positively charged oxygen vacancies were introduced by the flash sintering in an electrode-independent manner, even under DC electric field. XRD analysis revealed short-range structural fluctuations in flash-sintered specimens with longer holding times. These electrode-dependent and independent point defect generations under electric fields may be related to the enhanced atomic diffusion during flash sintering.

Summary: The study successfully grew methylammonium lead iodide films using chemical vapor deposition, increasing air stability and inducing stable cubic phase formation. The samples maintained the cubic phase at pressures as low as 0.25 GPa. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the CVD-grown MAPbI3 crystals remained in the cubic phase between 0.25 and 3.0 GPa.

Summary: The oxidation mechanisms of chemical vapor deposited TiN, Ti(C,N) and TiC coatings were studied, revealing that TiN has the highest oxidation onset temperature. Ti(C,N) and TiC form rutile and anatase during oxidation, with Ti(C,N) displaying the highest oxidation end temperature and TiC exhibiting the lowest oxidation onset and end temperature due to lower Gibbs free energy and smaller domain size compared to TiN.

Summary: The study reveals significant chemical interaction at the MoO3/MAPbI(3-x)Cl(x) interface, leading to decomposition of the perovskite and accumulation of PbI2 on the MoO3 cover layer. New compounds such as PbMoO4, PbN2O2, and PbO are formed as a result of the decomposition, suggesting that the direct MoO3/MAPbI(3-x)Cl(x) interface may be inherently unstable. These findings help explain the low power conversion efficiencies of metal halide perovskite solar cells using MoO3 as a hole-transport material with direct contact to perovskite.

Summary: Uranium tetrafluoride (UF4) undergoes chemical speciation changes and forms hydrates when aged under high humidity conditions, indicating different hydration states depending on the temperature and relative humidity. These findings suggest that the presence of UF4 hydrate in UF4 materials may indicate storage under high humidity conditions.

Summary: In this study, it is found through simulations that the detection wavelength range of GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs quantum well infrared photodetectors (QWIPs), which are currently state-of-the-art, can be substantially improved using kappa-([Al,In](x)Ga1-x)(2)O-3, while being transparent to visible light and insensitive to photon noise due to its wide band gap. It is also demonstrated that the efficiency of QWIPs critically depends on the quantum well thickness, making precise control and determination of the thickness essential.

Summary: Metal organic chemical vapor deposition was used to directly grow N-polar In-rich InAlN layers on on-and off-axis c-plane sapphire substrates. The InAlN layer's composition and surface morphology can be controlled by adjusting the trimethylindium flow. Room temperature photoluminescence shows narrow full-width at half maximum for all samples, indicating the potential of using In-rich N-polar InAlN as a buffer layer in new types of heterostructure devices.

Summary: The study demonstrates that low-temperature partial oxidation is an effective method for modifying reed straw, increasing methylene blue adsorption and removal efficiency, with a high yield, offering a new sustainable environmental management technology. A linear correlation exists between oxygen content and methylene blue adsorption at different modification temperatures, but under high temperature conditions, pore blockage and competition with metallic cations need to be considered.

Summary: This study investigated the association between child toxicant exposure and growth and development, finding that arsenic, lead, and mercury concentrations in children's nails were associated with lower child development scores. However, the negative association between mercury and neurological development was attenuated with increasing selenium concentration. Therefore, selenium status should be considered when assessing the impact of heavy metal toxicants on neurodevelopmental outcomes in children.
