A novel C16N-type Lycopodium alkaloid consisting of a decahydroquinoline and a cyclohexanone, huperminone A (1), was isolated from the club moss of Huperzia phlegmaria, and the structure and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. This unique C16N-type skeleton lacking in a nitrogen atom may be generated from C16N2-type phlegmarane skeleton. (c) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
