The conversion of alkenes into alpha-iodoketones has been achieved in good yields and with high regioseiectivity by means of iodohydrin formation and subsequent oxidation with 2-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) under mild conditions. Aromatic alkynes are also converted into their corresponding alpha-iodoketones Under similar conditions. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
