Summary: Solutions of weakly coordinating ionic liquids (ILs) in alkyl carbonates have attracted attention due to their green solvents properties, but the understanding of ILs' phase behavior and structure in organic polar solvents is lacking. This study investigates the interactions and nanoscale structure of a specific IL, [BMIm][BARF], in alkyl carbonate solvents. The results show that [BMIm][BARF] is mostly undissociated in these solvents and the presence of rod-like nanostructures in the IL/solvent mixtures. The study also reveals that the self-assembly of nano-sized structures is hindered by slower ion diffusion in alkyl carbonates with lower dielectric constants. The findings have implications in various fields including batteries, catalysis, extraction, and bio-applications.

Summary: By using a series of diimidazole ILs, furfural can be upgraded to furoin effectively. Factors affecting the yield include the solvent composition, the structure of the cation and anion of the ILs. The study suggests that extending the side chain and transforming ethyl group into unsaturated vinyl group can greatly enhance the production yield.

Summary: This study investigates the short-term thermal stability limits of immobilized ionic liquids on metal oxides and compares them with bulk ionic liquids. The results show that the thermal stability limits of the immobilized ionic liquids change significantly, and the anion type is the strongest factor affecting the thermal stability. The alkalinity of the anion and the surface acidity of the metal oxide have a significant impact on the stability limits.

Summary: This study discusses the synthesis and characterization of a new class of 1,2,4-oxadiazolylpyridinium as a cationic scaffold for fluorinated ionic liquid crystals. A series of 12 fluorinated heterocyclic salts based on a 1,2,4-oxadiazole moiety, connected to an N-alkylpyridinium unit and a perfluoroheptyl chain, with different alkyl chain lengths and counterions, have been synthesized. The thermotropic properties of these salts, particularly the existence of an enantiotropic mesomorphic smectic liquid crystalline phase for six bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide salts, have been investigated.

Summary: Polymers made of energetic ionic liquid building blocks are used as fuel-binder part in propellant compositions, exhibiting desired mechanical and energetic properties. Utilizing specific monomers and oxidizer, along with photo polymerization ability, allows for control over product properties and reduced content of heterogeneous oxidizer. Additionally, the importance of intermolecular interaction and achievement of pressure independent burn rates were identified in this study.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulations and complementary experiments were used to study the inter- and intramolecular structures and conformational properties of imidazolium ionenes in an ionic liquid. Different chemical and structural variations of the polymers were found to affect their internal interactions and interactions with surrounding molecules, resulting in changes in chain flexibility and alignment of imidazolium groups. The concentration of alkyl groups and polymer architecture also play important roles in determining the polymer structure and properties.

Summary: A new strategy for direct access to fully substituted polycyclic imidazolium salts using alpha-enaminones and proline as the reagents is reported. This open-flask operation is a catalyst-, metal-, and Lewis acid-free green process, which does not require an ion-exchange step. It can produce good yields with minimal formation of side products, and is not limited to aryl substituents.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of four water-soluble pyridinium-based ionic liquids on maize seedling growth, finding that toxicity was correlated with concentration and alkyl side chain length. Root growth was more sensitive to the ILs than stem growth, and gene expression profiles were altered particularly by longer alkyl side chains. The findings suggest IL toxicity may be linked to oxidative stress and changes in gene expression.

Summary: This study focuses on the preparation and characterization of four new ionic liquids formed by different polyoxotungstates or polyoxomolybdates pairing with the cation trihexyltetradecylphosphonium. It was found that the physical properties, viscosity, and rheological behaviors of POM-based ionic liquids (POM-ILs) are heavily dependent on the nature of the POM, particularly its charge. Additionally, the study demonstrates the potential of using these materials as solvents and catalysts for alcohol oxidation, as well as a simple method for catalyst recycling.

Summary: This study presents a method for the selective synthesis of perfluoroalkyl selenoxides and selenones using Oxone (R) as an oxidant or a Polyoxometalate-based Ionic Liquid (POM-IL) as a catalyst. The reaction provides satisfactory to excellent yields for various perfluoroalkyl chains and substituents. Perfluoroalkyl selenoxides are obtained through a two-step one-pot reaction from selenocyanates, and the previously unknown perfluoroalkyl selenoximines family is prepared with good yields. Two strategies for the synthesis of fluoroalkylated Se-IV and Se-VI compounds are explored, and the lipophilicity parameters of these compounds are evaluated. Additionally, the absolute configurations of asymmetric aryl perfluoroalkyl selenoximines are determined through resolution.

Summary: In this study, a low-metal iron-supported catalyst (Fe20/NC-Mg) was reported for the efficient synthesis of quinoxaline compounds, using water as a solvent and without additional bases. The synergistic effect of FeNx site and Mg (OH)2 nanorods in the catalyst played a key role in achieving high yields (82-91%) in 16 examples. The gram-level synthesis and reusability of the catalysts after four cycles demonstrated its industrial application potential.
