Synthesis, Physical Properties and Application of a Series of New Polyoxometalate-Based Ionic Liquids

Yohan Martinetto, Salome Basset, Bruce Pegot, Catherine Roch-Marchal, Franck Camerel, Jelena Jeftic, Betty Cottyn-Boitte, Emmanuel Magnier, Sebastien Floquet

Summary: This study focuses on the preparation and characterization of four new ionic liquids formed by different polyoxotungstates or polyoxomolybdates pairing with the cation trihexyltetradecylphosphonium. It was found that the physical properties, viscosity, and rheological behaviors of POM-based ionic liquids (POM-ILs) are heavily dependent on the nature of the POM, particularly its charge. Additionally, the study demonstrates the potential of using these materials as solvents and catalysts for alcohol oxidation, as well as a simple method for catalyst recycling.

(Trifluoromethylselenyl)methylchalcogenyl as Emerging Fluorinated Groups: Synthesis under Photoredox Catalysis and Determination of the Lipophilicity

Kevin Grollier, Arnaud De Zordo-Banliat, Flavien Bourdreux, Bruce Pegot, Guillaume Dagousset, Emmanuel Magnier, Thierry Billard

Summary: This study presents a method for synthesizing molecules bearing (trifluoromethylselenyl)methylchalcogenyl groups, with good yields up to 88% and up to 98% in flow chemistry conditions. The mechanism of this key reaction was investigated, and the emerging groups were physicochemically characterized. Additionally, the reaction was extended to perfluoroalkylselenolation with yields up to 95%, and successfully applied to the functionalization of bioactive molecules.

Solvent free nucleophilic selenocyanation with [bmim][SeCN]. Direct access to perfluoroalkylselenide compounds

Arnaud De-Zordo Banliat, Kevin Grollier, Aurelie Damond, Thierry Billard, Guillaume Dagousset, Emmanuel Magnier, Bruce Pegot

Summary: The online-available [bmim][SeCN] has shown high efficiency in the selenocyanation of alkyl halides, with no organic solvents used in the process and reduced reaction times by utilizing microwave heating. The ionic liquid was carefully recycled and selenocyanate compounds were successfully transformed into trifluoromethylselenides in a one-pot two-step procedure.

Arnaud de Zordo-Banliat, Kevin Grollier, Jordan Vigier, Erwann Jeanneau, Guillaume Dagousset, Bruce Pegot, Emmanuel Magnier, Thierry Billard

Summary: This article describes a palladium-catalyzed trifluoromethylselenolation reaction of vinylic C-H bonds. The reaction utilizes 5-methoxy-8-aminoquinoline as an auxiliary directing group, and gives excellent yields regardless of the nature of the substituents.

Perfluoroalkyl Selenoxides, Selenones and Selenoximines: General Preparation and Properties

Arnaud de Zordo-Banliat, Kevin Grollier, Nicolas Vanthuyne, Sebastien Floquet, Thierry Billard, Guillaume Dagousset, Bruce Pegot, Emmanuel Magnier

Summary: This study presents a method for the selective synthesis of perfluoroalkyl selenoxides and selenones using Oxone (R) as an oxidant or a Polyoxometalate-based Ionic Liquid (POM-IL) as a catalyst. The reaction provides satisfactory to excellent yields for various perfluoroalkyl chains and substituents. Perfluoroalkyl selenoxides are obtained through a two-step one-pot reaction from selenocyanates, and the previously unknown perfluoroalkyl selenoximines family is prepared with good yields. Two strategies for the synthesis of fluoroalkylated Se-IV and Se-VI compounds are explored, and the lipophilicity parameters of these compounds are evaluated. Additionally, the absolute configurations of asymmetric aryl perfluoroalkyl selenoximines are determined through resolution.

Facile synthesis of quinoxaline catalyzed by iron-based carbon material in water

Fuying Zhu, Yamei Lin

Summary: In this study, a low-metal iron-supported catalyst (Fe20/NC-Mg) was reported for the efficient synthesis of quinoxaline compounds, using water as a solvent and without additional bases. The synergistic effect of FeNx site and Mg (OH)2 nanorods in the catalyst played a key role in achieving high yields (82-91%) in 16 examples. The gram-level synthesis and reusability of the catalysts after four cycles demonstrated its industrial application potential.
