Near-Infrared Fluorescent Micelles from Poly(norbornene) Brush Triblock Copolymers for Nanotheranostics

Carolyne B. Braga, Ronaldo A. Pilli, Catia Ornelas, Marcus Weck

Summary: This study describes the design and synthesis of multifunctional micelles based on amphiphilic brush block copolymers for imaging and selective drug delivery of natural anticancer compounds. The micelles exhibited excellent drug encapsulation and release properties, high cellular internalization capacity, and significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells. Moreover, the micelles showed high selectivity and preferential cellular uptake in cancer cell lines, demonstrating their potential for efficient drug delivery and image-guided diagnostics using a versatile polymeric nanosystem.

Functionalization of 2,4-Dichloropyrimidines by 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidyl Zinc Base Enables Modular Synthesis of Antimalarial Diaminopyrimidine P218 and Analogues

Matheus A. Meirelles, Ian de Toledo, Samuel Thurow, Gabriela Barreiro, Rafael M. Counago, Ronaldo A. Pilli

Summary: Two routes were developed to synthesize the antimalarial diaminopyrimidine P218 by metalating suitable 2,4-dichloro-5-alkoxypyrimidines at the C-6 position. One route involves late-stage modification of the C-6 position, while the other allows for tail fragment modification of P218. Both routes have successfully synthesized P218 and eight analogues, showing potential for the discovery of new antimalarial drugs.

Effect of the seed coating with biomass of Dunaliella salina on early plant growth and in the secondary metabolites content of Coriandrum sativum

Yasmin B. T. Fonseca, Nicole M. Almeida, Jamile C. Caldas, Gabriel N. Morais, Isaac M. J. Silva, Valeria B. Riatto, Walter N. L. Santos, Fernando L. B. Moutinho

Summary: This study evaluated the stimulatory effect of a seed coating technology combining the biomass of Dunaliella salina and the bioplastic film of Manihot esculenta on the growth and compound synthesis of Coriandrum sativum plants. The results showed that the coating increased germination percentage and concentration of bioactive compounds, potentially due to the presence of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins in the microalgae biomass.

Facile synthesis of quinoxaline catalyzed by iron-based carbon material in water

Fuying Zhu, Yamei Lin

Summary: In this study, a low-metal iron-supported catalyst (Fe20/NC-Mg) was reported for the efficient synthesis of quinoxaline compounds, using water as a solvent and without additional bases. The synergistic effect of FeNx site and Mg (OH)2 nanorods in the catalyst played a key role in achieving high yields (82-91%) in 16 examples. The gram-level synthesis and reusability of the catalysts after four cycles demonstrated its industrial application potential.
