Summary: Two indoles linked by a C-C bond have emerged as promising scaffolds in medicinal chemistry. In this study, selective C-H/C-H cross-coupling of N-substituted indoles without directing groups was achieved under mild conditions, driven by molecular oxygen. The ligand-controlled selectivity can be exploited to achieve selective cross-coupling between two indoles with different substitution patterns.

Summary: In this study, we report a new method for the gamma-arylation and gamma-lactonization of aliphatic acids, enabled by a L,X-type CarboxPyridone ligand catalyzed Pd(II) reaction. A wide range of gamma-arylated gamma-lactones can be efficiently synthesized in a single step, and the arylated lactones can be further converted into disubstituted tetrahydrofurans, which are prominent scaffolds in bioactive molecules.

Summary: This article proposes a new method for the direct hydroxylarylation of unactivated benzylic carbons (sp3/sp2/sp) without the need for pre-functionalized benzylic alcohols, aromatic aldehydes, or ketones. It features direct functionalization of unactivated benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds and benzylic sp2/sp-carbons, mild conditions (open air, room temperature), an environmentally friendly procedure (without any external catalyst/mediator/additive), and direct access to sterically hindered alcohols from inexpensive and readily available alkyl/alkenyl/alkynylbenzenes. Mechanistic studies strongly support the proposed radical-radical cross-coupling between transient ketyl radicals and persistent radical anions. Gram-scale synthesis and diversification of drug derivatives demonstrate the practical potential of this protocol.

Summary: Desymmetrization is a crucial technique for synthesizing chiral compounds, especially chiral biaryls. This study presents an enantioselective synthesis of axially chiral biaryls through desymmetrization using chiral palladium phosphate as the catalyst for C(sp(3))-H activation. Mechanistic investigations reveal that C-H activation plays a crucial role in determining the rate and enantiomeric selectivity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the asymmetric desymmetrization of axially chiral compounds via C(sp(3))-H activation.

Summary: A ligand-controlled site-selective C(sp(3))-H arylation of heteroaromatic ketones has been developed using Pd catalysis, with selective reactions occurring at the alpha- or beta-position of the ketone side-chain. Addition of a pyridone ligand enables switching from alpha- to beta-arylation. The alpha-arylation process demonstrates broad scope and high site- and chemoselectivity, while the beta-arylation is more limited, with mechanistic investigations suggesting different pathways for the two processes.

Summary: This article presents a new selectivity mode for C-H arylation reactions, which is the preference for C(sp(2))-H activation next to alkyl groups. The study results indicate that this preference is related to the non-covalent interactions between the catalyst and the substrate.

Summary: In recent years, the development of light-driven reactions has made significant advancements in synthetic organic chemistry, particularly in combining photoredox and nickel catalysis for challenging cross-coupling reactions. The question of whether photo-induced activation of the nickel catalyst itself could lead to new approaches to cross-coupling has been explored. By utilizing a visible-light-driven mechanism for chlorine radical formation and conducting mechanistic investigations on organometallic Ni complexes relevant to cross-coupling, the study aims to facilitate new catalyst design and develop novel synthetic methods.

Summary: A new method for the direct catalytic arylation of simple arenes using aryl bromides is described. The method does not rely on directing groups and instead utilizes a synergistic catalytic cycle involving phosphine-ligated silver complexes and palladium catalysts. Mechanistic experiments indicate that cleavage of the C-H bond by silver is the rate-determining step in the catalytic cycle.

Summary: By reversing conventional site-selectivity of C-H activation, a new catalytic system based on palladium/norbornene and an S,O-ligand for meta-C-H arylation of aryl ethers is reported, which outperforms previously reported systems. This system shows unique ability to use alkoxyarene substrates with different substituents, as well as tolerate ortho-substituted aryl ethers by employing novel norbornene mediators. Moreover, monoarylation of alkoxyarenes is achieved for the first time, enabling rapid introduction of a second, different aryl coupling partner.

Summary: Development of heterojunction is an effective strategy to enhance the hydrogen production performance of photocatalysts. In this study, a 2D/2D Z-scheme heterojunction-coupled Zn0.4Cd0.6S with g-C3N4 was fabricated using in situ hydrothermal approach. The sheet-on-sheet architecture allowed full contact of heterojunction, facilitating interfacial charge transfer and increasing surface-active sites. Moreover, the Zn-N coordination bond provided a strong interfacial interaction and spatially separated photogenerated charges along the Z-scheme mechanism. The optimal photocatalyst exhibited high hydrogen production rates (7.69 mmol g-1 h-1) under visible-light irradiation without any cocatalysts, four times higher than the g-C3N4 photocatalyst with Pt as a cocatalyst. The catalyst also showed long-term stability of up to 50 hours. Thus, a direct Z-scheme heterojunction with intimate contact and a well-definite bridging chemical bond holds promise for hydrogen generation.

The nanocomposite enhanced electron transfer rate, increased intercalation of signaling molecules, and allowed immobilization of biomolecules. The aptasensor demonstrated good electrochemical characteristics and biocompatibility, with a linear range from 0.5 pg/mL to 1000 pg/mL and a low detection limit of 0.17 pg/mL. It also exhibited selectivity, stability, and reproducibility, making it suitable for clinical research and diagnostic applications.
