Summary: A method of rapidly and unidirectionally funneling high-frequency vibrational quanta over large distances using oligo(p-phenylene) chains has been discovered. The transport of high-energy vibrational quanta with speeds reaching 8.6 km/s can be controlled by tuning the degree of conjugation via electronic doping of the chain, opening avenues for developing materials with controllable energy transport properties for heat management and initiating chemical reactions remotely.

Summary: This study investigated the supramolecular assembly properties of m-phenylene ethynylene polymers equipped with H-bond donor and acceptor side chains in chloroform solution. It was found that complementary sequence oligomers can form stable duplexes, with duplex stability increasing with the addition of base-pairing interactions. Intramolecular folding competes with duplex formation, limiting the fidelity of sequence-selective assembly and providing a practical strategy for evaluating programmable synthetic polymers.

Summary: The paper reports the synthesis of peptoids with multiple cis-inducing monomers with alkylammonium side chains, achieved by late-stage S(N)2 displacements with amines on a solid support. The optimization of conditions for various primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl amine nucleophiles is also demonstrated. Additionally, it is shown that multiple chloride displacements can be achieved on sequences containing trans-inducing N-aryl- and N-imino glycine monomers.

Summary: Compounds 5av and 5aw showed excellent herbicidal activity in vitro, with over 90% inhibition against tested weeds at concentrations as low as 100 mg/L. Furthermore, they exhibited higher postemergence herbicidal activity than positive controls in a greenhouse setting, while being safe for crops of maize and wheat. Fluorescent binding experiments and molecular docking analyses indicated strong TK inhibitory activity of 5av and 5aw, making them promising herbicide candidates for weed control in wheat and maize fields.

Summary: This study designed and synthesized a series of compounds based on transketolase (TK) as a new target and evaluated their herbicidal activities. Compounds 4l and 4m showed the best herbicidal activities against Amaranths retrollexus (AR) and Digitaria sanguinalis (DS). In addition, compound 41 exhibited a broad spectrum of weed control and good crop selectivity against maize.

Summary: In this study, a concurrent biocatalytic reduction and photocatalytic oxidation process was demonstrated. By coupling the enantioselective biocatalytic sulfoxide reduction and light-dependent sulfoxidation, a cyclic deracemization process for nonracemic sulfoxides was achieved with excellent conversions and optical purity.

Summary: We have successfully prepared a new water-soluble, nonionic homopolypeptide poly(L-homoserine), as well as poly(L- homoserine) block copolymers with controllable segment lengths. The conformational preferences of poly(L-homoserine) were determined in both the solid state and in solution. The poly(L-homoserine) showed promising potential for applications in biology due to its solubility in water and disordered conformation. To further explore its potential, a block copolypeptide containing poly(L-homoserine) was prepared and found to self-assemble into micro- and nanoscale vesicles in water.

Summary: We have prepared a new water-soluble, nonionic homopolypeptide poly(L-homoserine) and poly(L-homoserine) block copolymers with controllable segment lengths. The conformational preferences of poly(L-homoserine) in both the solid state and in solution have been determined. Poly(L-homoserine) is soluble in water and adopts a disordered conformation, making it a promising candidate for applications in biology as a nonionic, water-soluble homopolypeptide. Towards this goal, a poly(L-homoserine) containing a block copolypeptide has been prepared and found to self-assemble into micro- and nanoscale vesicles in water.

Summary: The conformation of a fluorescent polymer is crucial in determining its fluorescent properties. This study investigated the effect of grafted polymeric side chains on the photoluminescent properties of poly(para-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) and poly(para-phenylene ethynylene) (PPE). Ionic grafts were found to decrease the quantum yield, contrary to expectations, while uncharged side chain grafts significantly increased the quantum yield. These results highlight the importance of molecular conformation in the photoluminescent properties of fluorescent polymers.

Summary: In this study, crystallographic studies were conducted on Na- and K-doped terphenyl and quaterphenyl. The results showed that K-doped samples had an increase in the c parameter, while Na-doped samples had a decrease in the c parameter and an increase in the a parameter, which may be related to polymerization. Additionally, Raman analysis was used to describe the localization of radical anions and the local distortions induced by electric charges during the doping process.

Summary: We synthesized piperidino nucleoside phosphoramidates functionalized with uracil, cytosine, guanine, and adenine and incorporated them into oligomers. High-performance liquid chromatography analyses showed that a phosphorodiamidate piperidino oligomer (PPO) is more lipophilic than a phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomer (PMO) with the same tetrameric sequence. The PMO containing piperidino residues formed duplexes with both DNA and RNA, while the PPO exhibited higher stability at endosomolytic pH and higher hydrophobicity than the PMO.

Summary: This study involves the synthesis of metallacycles by inserting alkynes into Pd-C bonds of ortho-metalated homoveratrylamine and phentermine, which further react with alkenes to form mononuclear complexes. Depending on the type of olefin used, different types of Pd(II) complexes are obtained. When terminal alkenes are used, anti/syn eta(3)-allyl Pd(II) complexes are formed; whereas using 2-norbornene leads to the formation of norbornyl palladium(II) complexes with a 10-membered ring structure.

Summary: In this study, a low-metal iron-supported catalyst (Fe20/NC-Mg) was reported for the efficient synthesis of quinoxaline compounds, using water as a solvent and without additional bases. The synergistic effect of FeNx site and Mg (OH)2 nanorods in the catalyst played a key role in achieving high yields (82-91%) in 16 examples. The gram-level synthesis and reusability of the catalysts after four cycles demonstrated its industrial application potential.
