The clouding behavior of amphiphilic drug clomipramine hydrochloride (CLP) in presence of different additives like bile salts, hydrotropes (anionic, cationic and nonionic), fatty acids, sugars and cyclodextrin has been investigated. These additives are commonly used as drug delivery systems. The additives like anionic hydrotropes, bile salts and fatty acid salts increase the cloud point (CP) of CLP, when added in low concentrations, whereas at high concentration, decrease it. Cationic and nonionic hydrotropes increase the CP of CLP at all concentrations. All sugars decreased the CP because of their water structure making property. beta-cyclodextrin behaves like simple sugar and decreases the CP of the drug solutions. The thermodynamic parameters are also evaluated: where Delta Gc degrees is found to be negative and Delta Hc degrees and T Delta Sc degrees values are negative as well as positive depending upon type and nature of additive.

Vandna Rani, Monika Malhotra, Shilpa Patial, Sonali Sharma, Pardeep Singh, Aftab Aslam Parwaz Khan, Sourbh Thakur, Pankaj Raizada, Tansir Ahamad, Abdullah M. Asiri

Summary: Molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) photocatalyst has gained considerable attention in the field of photocatalysis due to its high stability, non-toxic nature, and wide specific surface area. However, its weak visible-light absorption capability hinders further progress, primarily due to the slow charge transfer mechanism. The use of Z-scheme heterostructures has significantly improved the photocatalytic performance of MoO3 by enhancing the charge transfer pathway and visible-light utilization. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of the Z-scheme mechanism and discusses various Z-scheme-based MoO3 composites, highlighting their potential applications and future research directions.

Akanksha Chauhan, Anita Sudhaik, Pankaj Raizada, Aftab Aslam Parwaz Khan, Arachna Singh, Quyet Van Le, Van -Huy Nguyen, Tansir Ahamad, Sourbh Thakur, Pardeep Singh, Abdullah M. Asiri

Summary: The rapid growth of population and industries has caused major issues for environmental resources and energy. Environmental pollution is mainly caused by the discharge of hazardous pollutants into water, leading to a lack of access to clean water. Photocatalysis, particularly using Zinc selenide (ZnSe), has shown to be effective in improving the environment. This review focuses on the structural and optoelectronic properties of ZnSe and its applications in pollutant degradation and water purification, highlighting various strategies to enhance its photocatalytic activity.

Summary: Tyrosine-protein kinase CSK, also known as C-terminal Src kinase (CSK), plays important roles in regulating diverse cellular processes and pathways, including cell growth, differentiation, migration, and immune responses. Aberrant expression of CSK has been associated with various diseases, such as cancer and autoimmune disorders. This study conducted a structure-based virtual screening of phytochemicals to identify potential CSK inhibitors. Two hits (Shinpterocarpin and Justicidin B) were selected based on their druglike properties and binding affinity towards CSK. Molecular dynamics simulations further confirmed their potential as selective CSK inhibitors.

Shockproof Deformable Infrared Radiation Sensors Based on a Polymeric Rubber and Organic Semiconductor H2Pc-CNT Composite

Muhammad Tariq Saeed Chani, Khasan S. Karimov, Tahseen Kamal, Noshin Fatima, Mohammed M. Rahman, Abdullah M. Asiri

Summary: Polymeric rubber and organic semiconductor H2Pc-CNT composite-based shockproof deformable infrared radiation (IR) sensors were fabricated using a rubbing-in technique. The sensors showed decreased resistance and impedance when exposed to IR irradiation, and the temperature coefficients of resistance (TCR) were 1.2 and 1.1 for the surface-type and sandwich-type sensors, respectively. The high TCR value and novel composition of the H2Pc-CNT composite make these devices attractive for bolometric applications, and their easy fabrication and low-cost materials make them commercially viable.

A Comprehensive Study of Electrocatalytic Degradation of M-Tolylhydrazine with Binary Metal Oxide (Er2O3@NiO) Nanocomposite Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

Tahir Ali Sheikh, Abdullah M. Asiri, Amna Siddique, Hadi M. Marwani, Md. Rezaur Rahman, Muhammad Nadeem Akhtar, Mohammed M. Rahman

Summary: A novel electrochemical current-potential (I-V) approach was developed using a highly calcined binary metal oxide (Er2O3@NiO) semiconductor nanocomposite to detect and degrade toxic chemicals in aqueous medium. The modified glassy carbon electrode based on this semiconductor nanocomposite showed selectivity towards m-tolyl hydrazine (m-Tolyl HDZN) and good affinity towards other interfering toxic chemicals. Analytical parameters were optimized and the limit of detection (LOD) for m-Tolyl HDZN was calculated.

Malik Abdul Rub, Naved Azum, Sulaiman Y. M. Alfaifi, Md Minhas Hossain Sakib, Md Ackas Ali, Shamim Mahbub, Mohammad A. Halim, Md. Anamul Hoque, Abdullah M. Asiri

Summary: The mixed micellization behavior of the antidepressant drug amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMT) and the nonionic surfactant triton X-165 (TX-165) was thoroughly investigated using various techniques. The interaction between AMT and TX-165 was found to be influenced by different solvents, with the interaction being more pronounced in NaCl solvent compared to aqueous and urea solutions. The formation of mixed micelles of AMT + TX-165 was found to be spontaneous and thermodynamically favorable. Molecular dynamics simulation confirmed the interactions between AMT and TX-165, providing a basis for the development of a drug delivery system.

Exploring solvation behaviour of biocompatible ionic liquid 2-hydroxye-thylammonium formate plus polyethylene glycols mixtures: Role of oxyethylene and hydroxyl units of PEGs

Naved Azum, Maroof Ali

Summary: The research focus is on modifying the physicochemical properties of ionic liquids using green co-solvents and characterizing them at the molecular level using spectroscopic techniques. The addition of polyethylene glycols (PEGs) to the IL 2-hydroxyethyl ammonium formate (HEF) alters its solvent properties in a positive way. The solvatochromic absorbance probes reveal interesting non-ideal behavior in the absorbance of Reichardt dye 33, which can be attributed to the high dipolarity/polarizability and hydrogen bond donor ability of the HEF + PEG mixtures.
