Ag and Au nanoparticles are obtained by magnetron sputtering and pulsed laser deposition under different conditions, and the features of their absorption spectra associated with plasmon resonances are investigated. Optimal deposition conditions for obtaining small (5-10 nm) silver nanoparticles with a high density of surface distribution include an increased argon pressure (2.5 x 10(-2) Torr) and a low discharge voltage (100 V). Gold nanoparticle arrays obtained by pulsed laser deposition at a temperature of 200A degrees C in vacuum are more uniformly distributed on the substrates than those deposited at room temperature in argon. It is shown that the maximum of the plasmon absorption shifts toward shorter wavelengths with a decrease in the equivalent thickness of metal films and depends not only on this thickness but also on the type of substrate, which is responsible for the morphology of nanoparticle arrays.

Summary: Sr0.5Ba0.5Nb2O6 (SBN50) films with different thicknesses were synthesized by high-current discharge rf sputtering, exhibiting twinning of the same type. The appearance of this twin type is related to the peculiarity of the synthesis method, warranting further investigation.

Efficiency of Generation of Surface Acoustic Waves in Barium Strontium Titanate Thin Films

Vladimir B. Shirokov, Pavel E. Timoshenko, Valery V. Kalinchuk

Summary: The excitation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) on the surface of ferroelectric film (barium strontium titanate, BST) on a dielectric substrate (silicon) was theoretically studied. The study found that the most effective SAW excitation occurs when spontaneous polarization happens in the film plane and the wave propagates in the direction adjacent to the direction of the spontaneous polarization vector. Furthermore, the effect of misfit strain on the SAW characteristics was investigated.

Thermodynamic analysis of electro-optic coefficients of ferroelectrics

Summary: The electro-optic coefficients of ferroelectric materials were determined using Landau thermodynamic theory. It was proven that if the permittivity tensor is diagonal, certain ratios of the electro-optical coefficients are equal to ratios of its diagonal components. The influence of external electric field on the electro-optic coefficients of single-crystal barium titanate was studied and analyzed. It was found that the electro-optic coefficients for barium titanate are relatively high due to the non-linear response of dielectric susceptibility to electric field strength.

CONTROL OF THE PROPERTIES OF BaxSr1-xTiO3 FERROELECTRIC FILMS

V. B. Shirokov, P. E. Timoshenko, V. V. Kalinchuk

Summary: A method for controlling the properties of thin ferroelectric films by applying additional strain to the substrate is proposed in this study. Utilizing phenomenological theory and Landau potential model, it is shown that the material constants of the film can be altered by introducing additional strain to the substrate. This allows for control over the phase state of the film and excitation of surface acoustic waves in the film-silicon substrate heterostructure.
