Summary: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a severe complication during pregnancy, and identifying potential biomarkers for its early detection is crucial. This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate miRNAs associated with GDM. The findings suggest that certain miRNAs show altered expression in GDM, indicating their potential as biomarkers for early GDM detection.

Summary: This study examines several biomarkers in the cumulus-oocyte complex for their predictive significance in evaluating oocyte developmental competence and IVF outcomes. While these biomarkers show potential for predicting oocyte competency, challenges limit their practical application in IVF as prognostic tools.

Summary: Circular RNA (circRNA) molecules are noncoding RNAs with ring-like structures formed by covalent bonds and are characterized by no 5 ' caps or 3 ' polyadenylated tails. Increasing evidence shows that circRNAs may play an important role in tumorigenesis and cancer metastasis. This review analyzed relevant literature and conducted a meta-analysis to explore the role of circ-SHPRH in human cancers. The results suggest that high expression of circ-SHPRH is associated with better overall survival and lower TNM stage, indicating its potential as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for solid cancers.

Summary: Levels of growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) have been associated with various cardiovascular events. This study analyzed data from eight trials and found that higher GDF-15 concentration was independently associated with increased rates of cardiovascular death/hospitalization for heart failure and major adverse cardiovascular events. However, the prognostic association of GDF-15 with future myocardial infarction and stroke remained significant only in patients stabilized after recent acute coronary syndrome or with stable atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, not in acute coronary syndrome patients.

Summary: Chemokine research provides insight into the pathogenesis of cutaneous immune disorders like vitiligo. Detectable levels of chemokines show potential as future disease biomarkers. However, contradictory results exist due to patient characteristics and methodological differences. This meta-analysis compares chemokine expression in blood and skin samples of vitiligo patients versus healthy controls and evaluates the relationship with disease activity. Overall, CXCR3 signaling by CXCL10 and CXCL9 is confirmed, with CXCL10 showing more robust findings in blood samples. CCL5, CXCL8, CXCL12, and CXCL16 levels are significantly elevated, indicating a Th1-dominant response in vitiligo.

Summary: This study used a meta-analysis approach to investigate the different outcomes of canine in vitro oocyte maturation depending on the phases of the donor's estrus cycle. The results showed that oocytes from the luteal and follicular phases had a higher risk of meiosis resumption and reaching the metaphase I and metaphase II stages compared to oocytes from the anestrus phase. Furthermore, oocytes in the follicular and luteal phases had higher rates of transitioning between stages compared to oocytes in anestrus.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated disease of the central nervous system with unknown etiology. Research suggests that higher levels of nitrite/nitrate in the cerebrospinal fluid of MS patients compared to patients with noninflammatory other neurological diseases may help differentiate between the two conditions, although further studies are needed for confirmation.

Summary: Telomere length is increasingly used as a biomarker for long-term somatic state and future survival prospects, but the within-individual repeatability varies between studies. Measurement method plays a significant role in repeatability estimates, with TRF-based studies showing higher repeatability compared to qPCR-based studies. Additionally, biological factors did not significantly explain variation in repeatability, highlighting the need to separate technical and biological factors in future research.

Summary: This review focuses on the expression profiling of miRNAs in osteoarthritis (OA) and their potential as diagnostic biomarkers. The study identified several miRNAs, including miR-146a-5p, miR-34a-5p, miR-127-5p, and miR-140-5p, which exhibited aberrant expression in OA and could be considered as potential biomarkers for the disease.
