Summary: Gastrinoma can be cured by complete resection, but the surgical management for sporadic nonmetastatic gastrinoma is still controversial. This retrospective study analyzed patients who underwent surgery for nonmetastatic sporadic gastrinoma between 2000 and 2020. The study identified predictive factors for overall survival and disease-free survival. The results showed that tumor size and grade were independent predictors of recurrence, and surgical procedures did not significantly affect overall survival and disease-free survival for duodenal gastrinomas.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of mule gastric ulcer syndrome (MGUS) in a population of mules in Colombia and its potential associations with work load, work type, diet, sex, age, and body condition score. The results showed that the frequency of MGUS in the study population was 42%, with most ulcers located in the squamous region of the stomach. Work load was found to be the only variable associated with the presence of MGUS and mule squamous gastric disease (MSGD). However, no significant risk assessment results were obtained, and no significant interactions among the other variables were observed.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal interval for surveillance gastroscopy after endoscopic resection for gastric neoplasia and investigate the risk factors for metachronous gastric neoplasia. A retrospective review of medical records identified 677 patients who underwent endoscopic resection, and it was found that severe atrophic gastritis was an independent risk factor for metachronous gastric adenocarcinoma.

Summary: The Hartmann procedure is commonly used in emergency situations to save lives. Laparoscopy may become the standard approach for the Hartmann procedure and reversal, but its usage remains low due to advanced or complicated colorectal cancer, poor general condition of the patient, and difficulties in performing the reversal.

Summary: Surgical management is crucial for curative potential in gastric cancer despite high mortality rates. Laparoscopic and robotic gastrectomy have been widely studied and have shown similar outcomes to open gastrectomy in terms of postoperative complications, mortality, and oncologic results. Laparoscopic gastrectomy offers shorter hospital stays and faster recovery of bowel function, while robotic gastrectomy has advantages in lymph node harvests and pancreatic sequela. However, it is important to consider factors such as patient origin, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgeon experience, and extent of gastrectomy when applying these outcomes to clinical decision-making.

Summary: Although laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) is a widely accepted treatment for gastric cancer, conversion to open surgery is sometimes necessary due to technical difficulties such as reconstruction challenges and intraoperative bleeding. However, over a decade of experience and procedural improvements have significantly reduced the incidence of conversion to open surgery in LG.

Summary: In this work, a benchmark is proposed for extracting detailed surgical actions from available intervention procedure textbooks and papers. Different Transformer-based information extraction methods, including pre-trained language models, are explored and evaluated. The results show that fine-tuning a pre-trained domain-specific language model achieves the highest performance on all splits and sub-tasks. All models are publicly released.

Summary: This study aimed to define risk factors for positive margins in cervical conization and compare recurrence following additional surgical intervention compared to conservative management. A retrospective analysis was conducted on all conizations between 2010 and 2019. The study found no significant difference in recurrence rates between the different management groups. Residual disease was found in both hysterectomy specimens and repeat conizations.

Summary: Researchers have developed an innovative self-supervised learning algorithm that improves the differentiation of malignant and benign lesions, leading to increased accuracy in computer-assisted pancreatic cancer diagnosis. By utilizing a pseudo-lesion segmentation self-supervised learning model, the performance of convolutional neural network-based and transformer-based deep learning models was significantly enhanced. The study also found that self-supervised learning can improve the performance and robustness of the model on unseen and small datasets.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the recurrence rate of choledocholithiasis and identify risk factors for recurrent choledocholithiasis in patients following gastrectomy. The study found that the recurrence rate of choledocholithiasis was 14.5%, and the stone removal modality, no use of balloon sphincteroplasty, and the presence of periampullary diverticulum were significant risk factors for recurrent choledocholithiasis. Therefore, the study recommends using ERCP with active use of balloon sphincteroplasty to decrease recurrent CBD stones following gastrectomy.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship among ICC number, gallbladder contractibility, and gallstones in patients undergoing cholecystectomy. Results showed that male participants had a higher number of ICC in the mucosal layer compared to females, and larger gallbladder size was associated with decreased ICC in the muscular layer. The number of ICC in the muscular layer decreased with an increase in gallbladder stone number, but there was no significant correlation with other factors.
