Summary: This study compares the outcomes of frail geriatric ABP patients undergoing early CCY or NOM with ERCP. The results show that early CCY is associated with lower rates of complications, readmissions, mortality, and fewer hospitalized days within 6 months.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and cost of laparoscopic appendicectomy compared to open appendicectomy in Nigeria. The results showed that laparoscopic appendicectomy had higher healthcare costs but lower overall costs, lower infection rate, and faster return to work, making it technically and financially feasible in Nigeria.

Summary: This study provides a narrative review of the articles on partial resections of the gallbladder published between 1898 and 2022. The evolution of the technique and terminology of partial cholecystectomy is described, with a focus on subtotal cholecystectomy. Recent papers categorize partial resections based on the extent of gallbladder resection. Overall, subtotal cholecystectomy refers to an incomplete removal of the gallbladder.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis of hepatectomy and no hepatectomy approaches in patients with T2 gallbladder cancer. The analysis revealed comparable perioperative and long-term outcomes between the two methods. In certain cases, hepatectomy may not be necessary if the preoperative evaluation and intraoperative frozen sections confirm negative margins.

Summary: The study compared the postoperative outcomes of patients who had undergone previous hysterectomy (PH) and those who had not (NH) after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. While PH patients were older and required more trocars and longer procedure time, there was no significant difference in intraoperative and postoperative complication rates compared to NH patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combined operative analgesic techniques and pharmacologic analgesia in reducing pain in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The results showed that the combined approach decreased pain scores and improved sleep quality in these patients.

Summary: In this case, a 24-year-old female patient with a gallbladder polyp underwent laparoscopic-assisted transumbilical gastroscopy for gallbladder-preserving polypectomy, which was successful in removing the lesion. This technique was deemed safe and effective for the treatment of gallbladder polyps, offering an alternative to traditional cholecystectomy.

Summary: The study compared the surgical outcomes of emergency and delayed laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with acute cholecystitis, finding that emergency surgery is associated with more adverse outcomes. It recommends delayed surgery and ensuring the surgery date to reduce the risk of readmission.

Summary: The study compared the safety and efficacy of open transumbilical intussusception reduction (OTIR) and laparoscopic reduction (LAP) in children. The results showed differences in reduction rates, operative times, and surgery costs between OTIR and LAP, but both methods had similar rates of complications.

Summary: This study compared the recurrence rate of stones after synchronous laparoscopic cholecystectomy combined with laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (SLCL) and synchronous laparoscopic cholecystectomy combined with intraoperative endoscopic sphincterotomy (SLCE). The results showed that SLCL was more effective in reducing the rate of repeated recurrence of CBDS and the incidence rate of hepatolithiasis.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of incisional infiltration using a local anesthetic injection kit, ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block (RSB), and conventional local anesthetic infiltration in patients undergoing transumbilical single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC). The results showed that incisional infiltration using a local anesthetic injection kit significantly reduced the demand for patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) in comparison to RSB and conventional local anesthetic infiltration, and also resulted in shorter total procedure times.

Summary: Flexible endoscopy appears to be as effective and safe as open surgery in the treatment of Zenker's diverticulum. Endoscopy allows a shorter hospital stay at the expense of a higher risk of recurrence of symptoms. It could be used as an alternative to open surgery for the treatment of Zenker's diverticulum, especially in frail patients.
