Summary: This study compared the long-term postoperative and oncologic outcomes as well as perioperative outcomes between single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) and conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS) for colon cancer. The results showed that SILS appeared to be safe and effective compared to CLS, with shorter total incision length, less postoperative pain, and similar rates of incisional hernia. The 7-year overall and disease-free survival rates were also similar between the two groups.

Summary: Colorectal cancer survivors are at an increased risk of metachronous cancer and second cancer due to improvements in oncologic outcomes, with sarcopenia being identified as a factor with potential impact on long-term survival. Pre- and postoperative sarcopenia and changes in sarcopenic condition during surveillance are associated with oncological outcomes in colorectal cancer patients.

Summary: This study compared the short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic gastrectomy versus open procedures in patients with gastric cancer. Results showed that laparoscopic gastrectomy had superior 5-year overall survival and disease-free survival, lower recurrence rates, and shorter hospital stay compared to open gastrectomy, demonstrating that laparoscopic gastrectomy can be safely applied in both early and locally advanced gastric cancer.

Summary: This study compared short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic distal radical gastrectomy (LDG) with open distal gastrectomy (ODG) for T4a gastric cancer (GC). The results showed that LDG is feasible and safe for T4a GC and is comparable to ODG in terms of short- and long-term outcomes. LDG may be a favorable option for T4a GC smaller than 5 cm.

Summary: Patients undergoing emergency resection for colorectal cancer have decreased tumor-specific and overall survival compared to patients after elective resection, independent of age, sex, and tumor stage, even after correcting for 90-day mortality. These findings confirm the importance of colorectal cancer awareness and screening to reduce emergency resections.

Summary: This study found no significant differences in long-term outcomes between patients with ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal cancer and those with sporadic colorectal cancer. However, the results are limited by potential residual confounding and heterogeneity in confounding adjustment during the meta-analysis.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of anastomotic leak after colon and rectal cancer surgery on 5-year relative survival, disease-free survival, and disease recurrence. The findings suggest that anastomotic leak has a negative impact on survival but is not associated with disease recurrence.

Summary: This study aimed to validate the necessity of adjuvant chemotherapy for stage II colorectal cancer patients with positive postoperative CTCs. The clinicopathological features and overall survival of 70 confirmed CRC patients were collected and analyzed. The results demonstrated that positive CTCs are a potential prognostic marker for stage II CRC.

Summary: This study compared the long-term outcomes of robotic and LG approaches in patients with gastric cancer. The results showed that after balancing covariates, there were no significant differences in long-term survival and recurrence-free survival between the two surgical methods, and robotic gastrectomy showed advantages in reducing blood loss.

Summary: In this retrospective cohort study, the association between myocardial injury after noncardiac surgery (MINS) and long-term oncological outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) was investigated. The study found no significant difference in all-cause mortality and recurrence between patients with and without MINS. However, adjusted Cox regression analyses showed an increased hazard for all-cause mortality, recurrence, and disease-free survival in MINS patients without reaching statistical significance.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term survival effects of colorectal cancer screening based on screening history and interval time since screening. The results showed that colorectal cancer screening was positively associated with favorable prognosis, especially among individuals screened within 1 year before diagnosis.

Summary: Complications after colorectal cancer surgery can have a significant impact on long-term survival. Non-surgical complications have a greater effect on survival than surgical complications. The impact of surgical complications on survival is still measurable in rectal cancer patients after surviving the first year, but not in colon cancer patients.

Summary: This meta-analysis of 12 studies suggests that surgical resection (SR) is more effective than local resection (LR) in improving overall survival, recurrence-free survival, and disease specific survival in high-risk T1 colorectal cancer patients in the long term. However, not all high-risk patients are suitable for SR, and some may consider LR as an individualized treatment option.

Summary: This study found that robotic surgery and laparoscopic surgery have similar long-term oncologic outcomes for patients with mid/low rectal cancer. However, robotic surgery may provide benefits for patients with advanced rectal cancer who have a poor response to neoadjuvant chemoradiation.
