Summary: This study explores perceptions of hope among bereaved caregivers of onco-hematologic patients who received early palliative care (EPC). The results suggest that caregivers perceive hope as resilience and expectations based on patients' clinical conditions. Trusting relationships with healthcare teams enhance hope. EPC interventions are seen as major support for hope.

Summary: Multidimensional socio-medical care with early integration of palliative principles is strongly recommended in ALS. Specialized palliative care improves end-of-life outcomes for patients and reduces burden on caregivers. However, deficits in socio-medical care and lack of caregiver support are common, leading to negative health outcomes and increased caregiver burden.

Summary: The study examined the transition experienced by informal caregivers at the end of life through a concept analysis framework. It concluded that this transition can be an emotional time for informal caregivers, and effective transitioning is crucial for stable and quality end-of-life outcomes.

Summary: The study aims to design an outcome measure, SWAN-OM, to specifically demonstrate the value of single-session interventions for young people in therapy. The 4-stage process involved in developing this measure ensured usability and placed the needs of young people and service practitioners at the center of the design process.

Summary: This scoping review aims to describe the range and extent of interventions targeting existential distress among caregivers. The study found that supportive care interventions that promote meaning-making can buffer the negative effects of caregiver burden and promote resilience and growth. However, more large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to examine the effectiveness of these interventions.

Summary: This qualitative interview study explored the views and experiences of informal caregivers in providing end-of-life care for people with dementia at home. The study revealed a lack of specialist palliative care and identified issues with continuity of care, expertise, advance care planning, and autonomy. Proactive planning and training for domiciliary care services are essential in improving end-of-life care for people with dementia.

Summary: A cross-sectional multicentre study investigated the physical activity (PA) and inactivity of family caregivers of cancer patients and their relationship to burden and quality of life. The study recruited 75 caregivers from June 2020 to March 2021 and estimated PA and inactivity using a wrist accelerometer for 7 consecutive days. The results showed that most caregivers met the recommended levels of PA, but older caregivers had lower levels than younger ones. Inactivity was associated with caregiver burden and quality of life, and compliance with WHO recommendations was linked to lower quality of life.

Summary: Bereavement care is crucial before and after the death of a patient, as it helps family caregivers cope with the loss and prepare for the inevitable. Despite limited research, it is important to provide support for caregivers facing the death of a loved one, especially in neuro-oncology where prognoses are often limited.

Summary: Finding meaning in life is crucial for human experience and mental health. Individuals actively seek sources of meaning and engage in life crafting behaviors, such as reframing their perspective, seeking social support, and pursuing challenges. This study developed and validated a Life Crafting Scale to measure and track the effectiveness of life crafting interventions.

Summary: Current interventions addressing the grief and bereavement experiences of informal caregivers of geriatric patients in the Canadian (hospice) palliative/end-of-life care realm need further development. The format and target of interventions align with international literature. Large-scale evaluations are needed, and collaboration with informal caregivers should be strengthened to improve access to interventions. Additional funding should be provided by policymakers.

Summary: Underground miners employed by Wismut AG exhibited significantly higher mortality rates due to silicosis/other pneumoconiosis and lung cancer. Different levels of exposure to radon and respirable crystalline silica led to increased mortality rates for different diseases, with this impact still evident more than 20 years after Wismut AG ceased its activities.

Summary: The implementation of low emission zones (LEZs) has been shown to be an effective method to improve urban air quality, particularly in reducing PM mass concentration and EC level. The combination of LEZ with heavy-duty vehicle transit bans in cities like Berlin and Munich significantly lowered PM10 concentrations, with the greatest effects observed in LEZ stage 3. In contrast, the effects of LEZ on NO2 levels were inconsistent across different cities and stages of implementation.

Summary: This study is the largest and most up-to-date pooled study of uranium miners, involving 7 cohorts of male uranium miners with 7754 lung cancer deaths and 4.3 million person-years of follow-up. The study found a linear exposure-response relationship between cumulative radon exposure and lung cancer mortality, which is modified by temporal and exposure factors.

Summary: UNSCEAR recently recommended focusing future research on the lung cancer risk from low radon exposures or exposure rates on contemporary uranium miners. To meet this recommendation, risk models in the German Wismut cohort were updated using an extended follow-up period. The results showed that lung cancer risk decreased with older age, longer time since exposure, and higher exposure rates among uranium miners, emphasizing the importance of radiation protection against radon.
