Summary: This study found that pain management is crucial for the psycho-spiritual well-being of terminal cancer patients. Effective pain management can reduce depression and improve spiritual well-being. Additionally, positive expectations, especially optimism, are associated with the spiritual well-being of terminal cancer patients. Therefore, we suggest implementing pain management and psychological interventions for terminal cancer patients, while promoting optimism.

Summary: This review focuses on the pathophysiology of CRC-related pain and discusses current pain management strategies. Pain is a common symptom reported by CRC patients, but current methods do not always provide sufficient relief and may cause complications if used improperly. Future treatments should prioritize pain relief and reducing side effects. Recent pharmacological and non-pharmacological developments in CRC treatment are also covered in this article.

Summary: Pain is prevalent in patients with pancreatic cancer, and its management is crucial to improve quality of life. The multifactorial nature of pain in pancreatic cancer requires a multifaceted approach to alleviate pain and improve patient outcomes. Tumor response to treatment does not eliminate the risk of ongoing cancer-related pain, making pain management in pancreatic cancer challenging.

Summary: This study explores the association between precancer mental health and pain, postcancer health services, and the risk of suicidal self-directed violence (SSDV) among head and neck cancer (HNC) survivors. It found that precancer chronic pain or mood disorders, as well as postcancer mental health and substance use disorder treatment, were associated with increased risk of SSDV, while postcancer palliative care was associated with decreased risk. The study highlights the importance of suicide prevention efforts targeting HNC survivors with specific risk factors and the role of palliative care in supportive cancer care.

Summary: This study aimed to explore patients' perceptions of a group-based psychoeducational intervention for the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain and depression. The perceived barriers included lack of motivation, time constraints, pain, depression, ineffectiveness of pain-relief strategies, and activity avoidance. The facilitators were having a supportive family/friends, the positive effects of self-management, high motivation, and being a proactive patient, as well as peer support and identification, the positive effect of sessions, and free expression.

Summary: Although palliative sedation is common in Western countries, there is limited research on its practice in Korea. Unlike euthanasia, palliative sedation is ethically and legally accepted in Korea. Studies suggest that palliative sedation does not decrease the survival of terminal cancer patients. Shared decision-making and open communication are crucial in the preference for palliative sedation.
