Summary: Ferroptosis is a form of regulated necrosis that occurs in traumatic brain injury, Huntington disease, and hemorrhagic stroke. It is activated by cystine deprivation, glutathione depletion, and hemolysis products. ERK1/2 activation is a key feature of ferroptosis, and the MEK inhibitor U0126 can inhibit this process. However, hemin-induced ferroptosis is ERK1/2-independent. This novel subtype of ferroptosis is relevant to bleeding in the brain and is dependent on 5-lipoxygenase, independent of ERK and transcription.

Summary: Accumulation of endogenously formed zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP) was found to critically contribute to brain damage induced by intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Inhibiting ferrochelatase, which catalyzes the formation of ZnPP, resulted in a significant decrease in ICH-induced brain damage, suggesting a potential new therapeutic target.

The results showed that photothrombotic stroke (PTS) followed by LPS challenge caused a reduction in leukocytes and capillary perfusion, indicating a potential model for further studying CIDS through intravital microscopy of the intestinal microcirculation.

Summary: Research on overstretched sheep cerebral arteries has shown that subfailure disruption of the intima plays a critical role in increasing the risk of stroke following blunt cerebrovascular injury. The study found that all age groups demonstrated intimal disruption prior to catastrophic failure, with the threshold of intimal failure being independent of age. Further analysis revealed that disruption involved failure of both the endothelium and internal elastic lamina, indicating important implications for vessel function following trauma. Future work should focus on identifying subfailure disruption of the cerebrovasculature in head trauma.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the safety and preliminary efficacy of remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) in preventing stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The results showed a lower incidence of SAP in the RIC group compared to the control group, although the difference was not significant. There were no significant differences in immunological profiles and blood parameters between the two groups, except for lower levels of IL-6 and IL-1 β in the RIC group.

Summary: This study establishes a mouse model to investigate chorioamnionitis and its effects on fetal brain damage. The study reveals that amniotic lipopolysaccharides can cause Parkinson's disease-like brain damage in a dose and time-dependent manner, through the induction of apoptosis. It also shows that pretreatment with vaginal lipopolysaccharides can inhibit this fetal brain damage, while continuous ischemic reperfusion exacerbates apoptosis. The study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying these phenotypes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the incidence, characteristics, clinical relevance, and predictors of subarachnoid hyperdensities (SA-HD) after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) using dual-energy CT (DE-CT). The results showed that diffuse SA-HD (rather than local collections of blood or contrast extravasations) were associated with worse clinical outcomes and increased risk of death, highlighting the need for improvement in reperfusion strategies.
