Summary: Research is becoming more accessible to the public, but caution is needed when using reference information and bibliometric markers to assess research. A survey found that respondents were mostly influenced by the number of citations and the recency of publication, while factors such as author names, publication type, and publication origin had less influence. Undergraduate students showed a stronger preference for publications with multiple authors.

Summary: Reference publication year spectroscopy (RPYS) is a scientometrics method used to study the annual distribution of a corpus' cited references. While the method has been widely applied to investigate historical roots, there is a lack of research on its statistical aspects and methods for dealing with uncertainty or incomplete data. The study provides practical recommendations for researchers using RPYS based on empirical applications and simulation.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between social media use and traditional and alternative metrics among academic surgical journals. Higher impact factor journals tend to use more social media platforms, especially Twitter. Long-term Twitter activity positively correlates with impact factor, while having a Twitter presence does not alter impact factor. Novel alternative metrics are also positively correlated with impact factor.

Summary: Many companies host Christmas or holiday parties that are fun and meaningful for employees. However, the factors that determine employee satisfaction or dissatisfaction with these events are not well understood. This study explored how employee characteristics, organizational characteristics, and event characteristics are related to employee happiness. The results showed that a positive organizational culture, external location, fun activities, informality, and symbolism predicted higher employee satisfaction, while heavy drinking and formality predicted higher dissatisfaction.

Summary: We conducted a citation analysis on a dataset of over 63 million articles and 1 billion citations from 1981 to 2020 to assess the scientific impact of individual articles. We introduced the Article's Scientific Prestige (ASP) metric, which considers both direct and indirect citations, and compared it to the number of citations (#Cit) and journal grade. Our findings show that ASP and #Cit do not align for most articles, especially for less cited ones. ASP provides more persuasive rankings than #Cit in evaluating articles that are not highly cited, while the journal grade fails to accurately reflect the scientific impact of individual articles. The number of references and coauthors have less relevance, but subjects do make a difference.

Summary: There have been considerable variations in the frequency and types of diagrams used in mathematical publications over the last century. Diagrams were relatively common at the beginning of the period, but were almost completely unused for about four decades before reappearing in the 1950s in a different type. This change in publication practice indicates a shift in mathematicians' choice of representations and suggests more fundamental changes during the period under consideration.

Summary: Using acetaminophen as a redox additive with H2SO4, the energy density of supercapacitor electrodes can be increased. The reversible redox process of acetaminophen enhances the electrochemical performance of the supercapacitor electrodes and increases the ionic conductivity of PVA/H2SO4 gel electrolyte, resulting in excellent energy density of the flexible supercapacitor.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to provide reference standards for physical performance test outcomes in elite female soccer players. By analyzing data from the English Football Association's national development program, the study estimated age-related reference centiles for various physical performance variables. The results showed that the median of the performance test scores varied non-linearly with age, improving until around 25 years.

Summary: Ingesting polymerized polyphenols (PP) alone at doses <150 mg does not significantly alter early-phase postprandial triacylglycerol concentrations in healthy adults. However, the addition of caffeine and catechins to PP lowers postprandial glucose and insulin concentrations. Therefore, the effects of PP on postprandial lipemia are limited, but the addition of caffeine and catechins may have a regulatory effect on postprandial blood glucose and insulin.

Summary: The idea of increasing physical activity directly adding to total energy expenditure (TEE) in humans is challenged by the energy constrained hypothesis. Evidence supporting this hypothesis is limited due to various methodological issues, and future studies should address these limitations by using randomized controlled trials. The available evidence suggests that increasing physical activity mostly has an additive effect on TEE, although some energy remains unaccounted for, and the degree of energy balance may further moderate this effect.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the factor structure of player-reported fatigue and quantify the within-subjects association between changes in training load measures and next day fatigue during an elite football season. Three components were identified - soreness, mood, and hydration - with correlations between training load and next day fatigue values showing variations throughout the season. The study found in-season correlations to be greater than those observed during pre-season, highlighting the importance of monitoring training load to manage player fatigue effectively.

Summary: The study aimed to quantify the effects of spinal mobilization on force production, failure point, and muscle activity of the hamstrings during the Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE). Results showed immediate changes in bilateral hamstring force production and peak torque after the intervention, with increased electromyographic activity on the ipsilateral side. Response heterogeneity was generally similar to the random trial-to-trial variability in the measurement of outcomes.
