Summary: The presence of intravertebral cleft (IVC) in patients undergoing percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) was associated with a lower incidence of leakage through veins, but a higher incidence of leakage through the cortex, with no significant effect on the occurrence of general leakage.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed 1090 patients who underwent PVP treatment for OVCFs and identified main risk factors contributing to cement leakage, including cortical disruption, basivertebral foramen, and cement volume. The results of this study provide some guidance for reducing cement leakage in PVP treatment for patients with OVCFs.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of high-viscosity cement vertebroplasty and conventional kyphoplasty in managing severe OVCFs. The study found that high-viscosity cement vertebroplasty had a lower rate of cement leakage, shorter operative time, while conventional kyphoplasty achieved better in restoring anterior vertebral height and improving kyphotic angle.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the radiological, clinical, and functional outcomes of patients with osteoporotic vertebral body fractures treated with Balloon Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty. The study found that percutaneous vertebroplasty had shorter operative time and lower cost compared to balloon kyphoplasty. The postoperative outcomes were similar between the two procedures.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed 2344 patients who underwent PVP or PKP for OVCFs. It found that multiple involved vertebrae, thoracic fracture, operation timing, and operation methods are independent risk factors for PCE. The real incidence of PCE may be underestimated without routine postoperative pulmonary imaging examination.

Summary: This study found that higher BMI was associated with lower bone mineral density, and higher BMI, lower BMD, multiple vertebral fractures, no previous anti-osteoporosis treatment, and steroid use were independent risk factors for new vertebral fractures. Factors such as cement injection volume, time to surgery, and multiple vertebral fractures were identified as risk factors for cement leakage after PVP. The Nomogram and web calculator developed in the study demonstrated predictive ability and clinical value.

Summary: During percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP), monitored anesthesia with dexmedetomidine provides better patient cooperation, shorter operative time, and fewer adverse events. Monitored anesthesia achieves the highest perioperative satisfaction and the lowest VAS 2 hours postoperatively, but the MAP and heart rate in the monitored anesthesia group are lower 2 hours postoperatively.

Summary: In some cases of adjacent vertebral compression fractures treated with vertebroplasty, a cement bridging phenomenon was observed where injected cement flowed from the newly fractured vertebra to a previously cement-augmented vertebra. This phenomenon, not previously reported in the literature, was associated with better maintenance of focal kyphotic angle and anterior body height ratio during a 2-year follow-up.

Summary: This study introduced a novel point O puncture approach for percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in patients with L4 or L5 osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) and evaluated its clinical and radiographic outcomes. The point O puncture approach showed significant advantages over the transverse process-pedicle approach, including shorter operative time and fluoroscopy times, improved VAS and ODI scores, better vertebral compression ratio, and larger sagittal and transverse angles.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the mid-term to long-term effects of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and balloon kyphoplasty (BK) on the structural integrity of augmented vertebrae. A total of 351 patients who underwent BK and PVP for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures between 2010 and 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The results showed that the height loss of augmented vertebral bodies in mid-to long term was not prevented by BK.

Summary: Infection, progressive kyphosis, and neurological dysfunction are the primary causes of revision surgery after cement augmentation for osteoporotic vertebral fracture. Avoiding misdiagnosis and ensuring suitable indications may be the key points to decrease unplanned revision surgery. The quality of daily life and neurological function can be improved through revision surgery.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of high-viscosity cement (HVC) vertebroplasty (VP) and low-viscosity cement (LVC) balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures (VCFs). The results showed that HVC VP had a shorter operation time and lower cement leakage rate compared to LVC BKP. However, LVC BKP achieved better correction of middle vertebral body height and local kyphosis angle.

Summary: This study aims to introduce the principle, clinical efficacy, and learning curve of robot-assisted percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). The results showed that robot-assisted PVP shortens the operation time, reduces radiation exposure, and meets the clinical requirement in terms of accuracy. The learning curve for this technique is short and not steep.
