Summary: This study aims to recommend a cut-off score for the brief 2-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-2) measure for individuals with spinal cord injuries/disorders (PwSCI/D) and estimate the occurrence of anxiety within this population using the full 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) measure. The findings show that anxiety occurrence is elevated among PwSCI/D compared to the general population, and it is recommended to use a cut-off score of >= 2 for the GAD-2 and a threshold of >= 8 for the GAD-7 to ensure the maximum number of individuals with anxiety symptoms are recognized.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the use of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) to improve bowel management in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Results showed that SCS significantly reduced time required for bowel management, increased airway pressure generation, and improved overall quality of life. Importantly, the improvement in bowel management was associated with restoration of intra-abdominal pressure development.

Summary: This study aims to explore patients' perception during consultations and assess the relationship between this perception and demographic/injury variables as well as quality of life. The findings show that there is a strong correlation between the Consultation and Relational Empathy measure and patients' quality of life. Higher quality of life scores are associated with greater perceptions of holistic care and empathy.

Summary: This article qualitatively explores strategies to help individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) deal with grief and loss. Health care providers offer insights on relational and task-oriented strategies that can reduce suffering and promote healing. Regular screening, coordinated care, support services, and patient education are recommended. Overall, the findings provide guidance for health care providers in addressing grief and loss among individuals with SCI.

Summary: This review summarizes the role of necroptosis in central nervous system trauma and its therapeutic implications, providing important suggestions for researchers conducting in-depth research. The study focuses on the necroptosis signaling pathway, execution, temporal patterns of RIPKs in CNS trauma, association of miRNAs with necroptosis, and different types of CNS trauma cell death. It also highlights potential agents for curtailing necroptosis-related cell death in CNS trauma.

Summary: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe neurodegenerative disease causing a loss of motor and sensory functions. Hydrogels and nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely studied and proven to be effective strategies for treatment. Hydrogels can fill the pathological gaps in SCI and provide a microenvironment for nerve cell regeneration, while NPs can penetrate the blood-spinal cord barrier, target SCI lesions, and deliver drugs. This review discusses the use of hydrogels and NPs as drug carriers and their role in the repair and regeneration of SCI, providing a multimodal treatment reference.

Summary: This study examines the feasibility of monitoring tissue oxygen tension in patients with acute, severe traumatic spinal cord injuries. The results show that tissue oxygen tension is influenced by various factors, including intraspinal pressure, spinal cord perfusion pressure, tissue glucose levels, lactate/pyruvate ratio, and fever. In patients with motor-incomplete injuries, fluctuations in tissue oxygen tension correlate with fluctuations in limb motor score.

Summary: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating neurological condition that causes physical disability, psychological stress, and financial burden. miR-21, which is highly expressed in SCI, has been found to have protective effects against SCI by inhibiting inflammation, improving blood-spinal cord barrier function, regulating angiogenesis, and controlling glial scar formation. This review provides a new therapeutic perspective for miR-21 in SCI.

Summary: Opioids are frequently prescribed in outpatient dental settings, leading to opportunities for opioid stewardship. This pilot study tested the feasibility of an academic detailing intervention to promote appropriate prescribing of opioids. The results showed high feasibility, indications of adoption of intervention techniques, and a decrease in opioid prescribing rates. It is recommended to collaborate closely with frontline providers to gather feedback and support before scaling and implementing the intervention.
