Summary: This study investigates the effect of steric hindrance on amyloid formation using Monte Carlo simulations. The results show that steric hindrance inhibits oligomerization and can either facilitate or suppress the conformational conversion of proteins. Moreover, steric hindrance has an overall inhibitory effect on amyloid nucleation. These findings enhance our understanding of how nature regulates protein aggregation and amyloid formation through steric hindrance.

Summary: Rechargeable aluminum batteries (RABs) with high energy-to-price ratios can be improved by using a structure-rotatable cathode (quinone-based calix[4]quinone (C4Q)) to overcome the limitations caused by large-size active ions, such as steric hindrance and sluggish ion-diffusion kinetics. The C4Q cathode shows high energy density, enhanced rate capacity, and long-term stability in RABs, making it a promising option for high-performance RABs. The reaction mechanism of the rotatable cathode is also revealed through characterization studies and DFT simulations.

Summary: The study achieved a high open-circuit voltage binary D18-Cl/L8-BO system with the use of a volatile solid additive, 1,4-diiodobenzene (DIB), increasing crystalline packing and decreasing vertical domain sizes of phase separation. This led to improved exciton dissociation, charge transport, and collection, resulting in the best-performing device with an efficiency of 18.7%, making it the highest V-OC reported among OSCs with efficiencies over 17%. This work demonstrates the potential of solid additives with two iodine atoms to tune morphology in the vertical direction for future optimization of OSCs.
