Summary: This study developed new tools for assessing the risk of reoffending among individuals who have committed domestic violence. The prediction models, based on sociodemographic, criminological, and mental health factors, showed good discrimination and calibration for predicting violent reoffending and any reoffending. The study's findings have important implications for decision-making in criminal justice systems and the prevention and treatment of domestic violence.

Summary: This paper systematically reviewed the literature on violence perpetration by adults with severe mental illness towards their relatives, aiming to identify the types and rates of violence and understand its reported impacts. The findings revealed that relatives experienced different types of violence, with mothers being the most likely victims. The impacts on relatives included mental health problems and the breakdown of family relationships, although many relatives still continued to support the patients.

Summary: This study examines the knowledge and practices of people with severe mental illnesses (SMIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings suggest that mass media is the major source of information for SMIs, and concerns about finances, employment, and physical health are frequently mentioned. Overall, participants reported good knowledge and adherence to preventive measures. Gender and health-related quality of life were found to be associated with knowledge and practices.

Summary: This study examined the associations between frequency, intensity, and duration of muscle-strengthening activities and anxiety, depression, and mental well-being. The results showed that engaging in muscle-strengthening activities for three or more days was associated with fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression. Higher intensity of activities was also associated with lower levels of anxiety and depression. However, adherence to the muscle-strengthening guidelines and the duration of activities did not significantly predict mental health outcomes.

Summary: Psychiatry struggles to understand the types of mental illness associated with mass violence, but this presents an opportunity for research and public dialogue. A dimensional approach, aggregating symptoms into internalizing, externalizing, and psychotic experience domains, may help clarify misconceptions and reveal common dimensions of mental functioning in perpetrators.

Summary: The reform in the Swedish mental healthcare system transferred responsibility for services and social support for people with severe mental illness from regional level to municipalities in 1995. Older individuals with SMI were often neglected in this changing landscape of psychiatric care. This study aimed to investigate how functional levels and living conditions changed over time for older people with SMI, finding that longer stays in mental hospitals were associated with greater functional difficulties and increased likelihood of 're-institutionalization' to another care setting.

Summary: The study found that predisposing factors are stronger predictors of psychological distress than personal COVID-19 infection or exposure. Additionally, the additive effects of COVID-19 infection, alcohol use, and psychiatric problems increase the probability of suicidal ideation.

Summary: This study investigated the point prevalence of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and sex differences in symptomatology among undiagnosed, healthy adults. It also explored whether specific symptoms increased the likelihood of later needing anti-depressive medication. The results showed that MDD was associated with an increased risk of receiving a prescription for anti-depressive medication in the future, with the risk increasing as the severity of MDD increased. Feeling that life is not worth living was the strongest predictive symptom for women, while trouble sleeping was the strongest for men.

Summary: People with severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression, have a higher burden of cardiovascular risks and mortality rates than the general population. There is evidence suggesting shared etiological factors between severe mental illness and cardiovascular disease. This review explores the relationship between the two, proposes strategies to improve cardiovascular health in individuals with severe mental illness, and identifies areas for future research.

Summary: The aim of this research was to design and validate a medicines optimisation tool (OPTIMISE) to help clinicians improve the physical health of people with severe mental illness (SMI). A total of 62 prescribing indicators were developed and validated through a Delphi consensus methodology, with a substantial level of agreement between physicians and pharmacists. OPTIMISE has the potential to enhance medicines optimisation in this population.
