Summary: The study quantified the overall incidence of lateral trochanteric pain (LTP) following total hip arthroplasty (THA) and assessed the risk based on surgical approaches. The direct anterior approach showed the highest risk of LTP, while non-CSI modalities and CSI were successful treatment options. Patients with depression, kidney disease, and osteoporosis may have less efficacy with conservative treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of shock wave therapy versus therapeutic exercise, alone or in combination, in patients who did not respond to the initial treatment. The study found that both shock wave therapy and therapeutic exercise led to significant improvements in pain reduction, recovery from disability, and perception of recovery within 6 months. The combination of both therapies could be considered for patients who do not respond to a single treatment.

Summary: GTPS is a chronic condition, with individuals diagnosed with GTPS or hip OA at higher odds than the control group at 11-year follow-up. Effective treatments for GTPS are currently lacking, and results in pain and function vary depending on the assessment tools used.

Summary: A secondary analysis of a clinical trial involving 55 total hip arthroplasty patients compared the incidence of greater trochanteric pain (GTP) between a direct anterior approach (DAA) and a posterior approach (PA), finding a higher occurrence in the PA group. While patients in the PA group reported more pain when lying on their operated side, the overall functional outcomes and satisfaction scores were similar between the two approaches.

Summary: The administration of two series of low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT), prior response to steroid injection (SI), and the absence of structural abnormalities can predict better treatment outcomes in patients with greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS).

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy and reliability of a novel radiographic method in measuring combined component anteversion (CA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Retrospective analysis of patient radiographs and CT scans was conducted to measure radiographic CA (CAr) and compare it with CA measured on CT (CACT). A computational simulation was performed to assess the effect of various factors on CAr and to develop a formula to correct CAr. The study found a strong correlation between CAr and CACT, and proposed a formula for converting CAr to CA_cor.

Summary: This article introduces an ultrasound-guided fascial plane block technique for treating greater trochanteric pain syndrome. The technique successfully blocks the superior gluteal nerve without involving the sciatic and inferior gluteal nerves. Further clinical trials are needed to assess its efficacy.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with preoperative asymptomatic gluteal tendinosis (aGT) to a control group without gluteal tendinosis (GT). The results showed that aGT patients with osteoarthritis who underwent THA had favorable patient-reported outcomes at a minimum 2-year follow-up, comparable to those without gluteal tendinosis.

Summary: This study explored the association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and trochanteric bursitis (TB). The results showed that individuals with DM had a 55.8% higher risk of being diagnosed with TB compared to those without DM. In addition, females were 3.3 times more likely to have TB than males.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the impact of femoral and acetabular version on patient-reported outcomes following primary arthroscopic hip surgery. The results showed that there was no significant difference in postoperative functional outcomes between patients with acetabular retroversion and normal version. However, there were mixed results for patients with femoral retroversion and high femoral anteversion.

Summary: This study compared focused shockwave therapy (f-ESWT) to an ultrasound guided corticosteroid injection for the management of greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS). The results showed that f-ESWT had significantly improved scores in pain, function, quality of life, and the Trendelenburg test compared to the injection group after 12 months. These findings suggest that f-ESWT is an effective non-invasive treatment option for patients with GTPS.

Summary: The study described the types, prevalence, and association of pertrochanteric calcifications with hip abductor tendon injuries in patients with recalcitrant GTPS. The presence of any calcification was associated with partial-thickness tears and full-thickness tears. Proximally and distally directed enthesophytes were strong predictors for the presence of a hip abductor tendon tear, especially a full-thickness tear.
