Summary: MicroCT-based finite element models were used to investigate the relationship between bone volume fraction and uniaxial compressive yield stress in human trabecular bone from different anatomical sites. The study found that the power law coefficients differed between the calcaneus and other sites, but after normalizing by site-specific mean values, there were no significant differences in the coefficients and exponents among sites. This suggests that a given percentage deviation from mean bone volume fraction has the same mechanical consequence for all sites. These findings provide insights into the effectiveness of calcaneal x-ray and ultrasound measurements in predicting hip fracture risk.

Summary: This study introduces a new approach based on multifractal texture analysis to distinguish between Control Subjects (CS) and Osteoporotic Patients (OP) and characterize the trabecular bone microarchitecture. By exploiting the multifractal spectrum, new texture attributes are extracted to describe the changes in bone microarchitecture due to osteoporosis. Classification tests using a logistic regression model achieved a classification rate of 98.01%, indicating the promising potential of the proposed method as a complementary tool for osteoporosis diagnosis.

Summary: TBTA has been identified as an imaging biomarker that provides information on trabecular bone changes due to knee osteoarthritis. Studies reviewed the association of TBTA with KOA incidence and progression, total knee arthroplasty, and KOA treatment responses. While TBTA shows potential as a bioimaging marker for predicting KOA incidence and progression, limited research has been done on its association with OA treatment responses and predicting knee joint replacement.

Summary: Lumbar spine trabecular bone score (TBS) is a bone mineral density (BMD)-independent risk factor for fracture, but its sensitivity to technical factors and oral antiresorptive therapies is limited. This study analyzed TBS changes over time and in response to osteoporosis treatment, and found that TBS is strongly affected by technical factors and has little effect on monitoring response to antiresorptive treatment. Therefore, the current version of the TBS algorithm has limited usefulness in untreated individuals or routine clinical practice.

Summary: This study aimed to assess trabecular bone structure using fractal analysis with two binarization processes (WR.o and WR.r). The results showed that WR.r was more effective in removing non-trabecular noise compared to WR.o. FD.r and FD.f demonstrated good agreement. Furthermore, FD.f, histogram parameters, and lacunarity varied based on dentate status, jaw location, and sex.

Summary: The study found a significant association between osteosarcopenia and fragility fractures, especially when considering high-fracture-risk osteopenia and osteoporosis. Women with osteosarcopenia were more likely to have previously sustained a fracture compared to those without osteosarcopenia, with sarcopenia alone, and with osteoporosis alone.

Summary: The study proposed an experimental technique for the estimation of quality parameters of post-mortem human bone samples with signs of osteoporosis. By characterizing bone microstructure, the authors found that bone mineral density may have very low specificity in assessing bone's authentic microstructure, highlighting the need for a broader analysis of quality parameters to enhance the reliability of future osteoporosis diagnosis technologies.

Summary: Estrogen signaling is crucial for bone development and maintenance, and decreased estrogen levels contribute to post-menopausal osteoporosis. This study investigated the transcriptomic differences between cortical and trabecular bones in response to hormonal changes using a mouse model. Seven miRs were identified as potential contributors to estrogen-mediated mRNA expression changes, and four miRs showed therapeutic potential in preventing bone loss without the side effects of hormone replacement therapy.

Summary: The study finds that TBS can predict hip and major osteoporotic fractures, independent of bone mineral density and clinical risk factors. It also suggests that TBS can be used for monitoring the effectiveness of pharmacological therapy.
