Summary: This study investigated the relationship between 25(OH)D and 1,25(OH)2D with PTH. The results showed a negative correlation between all forms of PTH and 25(OH)D, while there was no significant correlation between 1,25(OH)2D and PTH. This finding suggests an inhibitory effect of 25(OH)D on the synthesis of all forms of PTH in the chief cells of the parathyroid gland.

Summary: Bone regeneration requires the interaction of multiple factors, including osteogenesis, osteolysis, angiogenesis, and an appropriate immune microenvironment. Recombinant human parathyroid hormone (PTH1-34) has been proven effective for clinical treatment of osteoporosis. However, its use in local bone repair is limited due to net bone resorption. This study proposes a strategy using multifunctional calcium phosphate (CaP) ceramics to modulate the effects of M1 macrophages and promote bone regeneration. The functionalization of the CaP ceramic scaffold with parathyroid hormone related peptide-1 (PTHrP-1) improves the osteogenic microenvironment, retains osteogenic and angiogenic properties, and achieves slow release of PTHrP-1. The results show that PTHrP-1-TBC is more suitable for bone regeneration than the unmodified peptide or the TBC scaffold alone.

Summary: An electrochemical platform based on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) was developed to detect parathyroid hormone (PTH). The nanocomposite of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) deposited on the SPCE improved the stability and conductivity of the immunosensor, while enhancing the electrochemical signal for enzyme-linked immunosensing.

Summary: Determining PTH levels is crucial for patients with parathyroid gland disorders and CKD for bone turnover monitoring. However, the lack of standardization in PTH assays on the market has led to confusion in CKD patient care. The IFCC Committee for Bone Metabolism aims to address and improve the variability in PTH testing methods.

Summary: This study evaluated the management and surgical treatment of parathyroid carcinoma at the Endocrine Surgery Unit of the University Hospital of Bari. The results showed that surgical approach is the best option for parathyroid carcinoma and early identification of high-risk patients is crucial for appropriate treatment.

Summary: The canonical model for GPCR activation assumes that activation occurs only at the cell surface and is turned off by receptor internalization. However, recent research has shown that some internalized GPCRs can continue to signal from endosomes, which has physiological implications.

Summary: In this study, the reconfigurable biosensing capabilities of a one-dimensional annular photonic structure were theoretically examined. The structure was made of concentric cylindrical layers of periodically modulated refractive indices, using Germanium antimony telluride (GST) as the phase-change material. The study focused on measuring the change in position and intensity of the defect mode during the phase transition of the GST material, and the design was able to identify minute refractive index variations in blood samples containing reproductive hormones. The biosensing capabilities of the proposed design were evaluated based on parameters such as sensitivity, limit of detection, signal-to-noise ratio, and quality factor.

Summary: This study compared the effects of two osteoanabolic drugs, ABL and TPTD, on protecting alveolar bone in experimental periodontitis. The results showed that both ABL and TPTD reduced alveolar bone loss, with ABL having better osteoanabolic effects. In vitro experiments also demonstrated that ABL had higher alkaline phosphatase activity and osteoblastic gene expression compared to TPTD.

Summary: Osteosarcoma is a common primary bone tumor that primarily affects children and adolescents, with a 5-year survival rate of 60 to 65% and limited improvement in prognosis in the past four decades. Studies have shown the important roles of PTHrP and PTHR1 in the development, progression, and metastasis of osteosarcoma, but their specific mechanisms have not been fully elucidated.

Summary: Autotransplantation of parathyroid glands (PGs) is an effective strategy for preserving parathyroid function in the mid and long term. Although transient hypoparathyroidism is positively correlated with the number of autotransplanted PGs, there is no remarkable correlation with permanent hypoparathyroidism.

Summary: The composition of the gut microbiome differs between patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD) and those with normal renal function (NRF). This difference is associated with altered levels of stool organic acids, systemic inflammation, and accumulation of uremic toxins (UTs). Furthermore, the levels of UTs, inflammatory markers, and stool organic acids differ significantly between patients with NRF and those undergoing HD.
