Summary: The cabbage stem flea beetle is an important pest of winter oilseed rape crops in Europe. Dissection of plants and counting scars on petioles have been proposed as alternative methods to estimate the severity of larval infestation. This study validated the efficiency and accuracy of plant desiccation and counting scars in estimating the number of larvae.

Summary: This study demonstrates that simultaneous treatment with gaseous ClO2 and heat at high relative humidity can effectively reduce the population of Escherichia coli O157:H7 on seeds without impacting seed viability.

Summary: This research found that both radicle emergence (RE) and mean germination time (MGT) are suitable indices for evaluating the vigour of Chinese milk vetch (CMV) seeds. However, RE is more accurate, quick, and convenient.

Summary: This study aimed to test various vigour tests to correlate them with seedling emergence in two field sowing dates and two different sowing depths in controlled room emergence of ten dill seed lots. The results showed that controlled room seedling emergence values were significantly higher than field emergence values, and most vigour tests were significantly correlated with seedling emergence potential.

Summary: The study revealed that the relationship between ethanol release and seed vigour is species dependent. In some crops, ethanol release is positively or negatively correlated with controlled deterioration tolerance or seedling emergence.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of alternating temperatures on aubergine seed germination, emergence rates, and physiological changes. The findings showed that high temperatures in combination with cooling improved aubergine seed germination and seedling emergence, as well as resulted in increased antioxidant enzyme activities and hormone levels.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between radicle emergence (RE) counts and the storage potential of cucurbit rootstock seed lots. The results showed that RE counts were highly correlated with normal germination percentage, estimated initial viability, and the time for viability to fall to 50%. Therefore, RE tests can be used as an indicator of seed lot longevity in cucurbit rootstock cultivars.

Summary: The study evaluated the application of three different plant growth promoting rhizobacteria-PGPR with a synthetic methylamine molecule to improve water productivity for summer squash under deficit irrigation. Results showed that PGPR + MA applications mitigated the harmful effects of water deficit on photosynthetic traits and significantly improved yield, indicating the potential for optimizing water productivity and increasing squash yield while saving water.

Summary: The aging process reduces seed vigor and viability. This study investigated the effects of karrikinolide (KAR1) and hydropriming on the germination and repair mechanism of unaged and artificially aged pepper, marrow, and cabbage seeds. The results showed that KAR1 treatment improved germination, reduced electrical conductivity and potassium leakage, and increased the fresh and dry weights of seedlings. This suggests that KAR1 application can enhance the performance of aged seeds in germination.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether radicle emergence (RE) is correlated with storage potential of watermelon seed lots. Results showed that measuring RE percentage between 34-60 hours after germination is highly correlated with seed survival after 63 days of storage at 25 degrees Celsius

Summary: This study investigated the use of the RE (radicle emergence) test to estimate the seedling emergence and quality of hybrid cucumber seeds under low temperature conditions, high salt conditions, and a combination of the two. The results showed that both stress environments and their combination reduced seedling emergence and quality. The RE values were significantly correlated with seedling emergence and quality, with the RE 24 h showing the highest correlation coefficient.

Summary: The study found that a vigor test measuring the emergence of radicles was correlated with the storage potential of onion seeds. By counting the percentage of radicle emergence at 80 hours after germination, the longevity of onion seed lots can be estimated quickly.

Summary: In the experiment, bio-priming (especially strain Bs1 and L13) improved germination and seedling emergence characteristics of bell pepper seeds with different maturity levels compared to control groups (p < 0.05). The results demonstrate that bio-priming with beneficial endophytic bacteria can be used to stimulate the quality of pepper seeds.
