Summary: The study of Nasikie Engida shows that hot spring discharge has maintained the lake for at least 2 kyr, and evaporite formation is strongly influenced by local discharge of carbon dioxide. In this lake, nahcolite and trona precipitate in different ways, forming unique structures.

Summary: Trona pretreatment significantly enhances methane production efficiency during anaerobic digestion of Guinea grass, by increasing methane production rates and degradation yields. Kinetic modeling shows that Trona pretreatment accelerates the hydrolysis of grass materials, while a change in temperature also affects methane yield.

Summary: This study presents an innovative method for preparing calcium carbonate-based cement using weathered cement kiln dust as the main precursor. The performance of the prepared cement is strongly affected by different alkali activators, with sodium silicate and sodium aluminate leading to a significant enhancement in compressive strength. Mixing sea water with alkali activators results in the formation of nano materials that effectively improve the mechanical performance of the prepared cement. Incorporating lead glass sludge within the activated cement enhances the formation of certain hydrates, leading to a significant improvement in compressive strength.

Summary: Trona, a naturally occurring inorganic salt consumed in Nigeria, was examined for its radiological content. The study found that the activity concentration of radioisotopes in Trona samples was well below acceptable thresholds, indicating no significant radiological health risk associated with its consumption at the current rate in Nigeria.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted on traditional etchants (NaOH/H2O, KOH/H2O) and new etchants (NaOH/Methanol, NaOH/Ethanol and NaOH/1-propanol) for Radon monitoring. The etching parameters and properties of the etched samples were compared. Traditional etchants took longer etching time and showed initial swelling, while new etchants had shorter etching time and higher etch rate.

Summary: This study describes the beneficiation process of white-powdery mineral from soil sediments in a semi-arid region, resulting in the extraction of trona. The yield of trona is influenced by the size of sand fractions, with finer fractions resulting in higher yields. The addition of CO2-enhanced medium significantly increases the yield. Chemical analysis and spectroscopy techniques confirm the presence and composition of trona. SEM images show that trona particles are small and less agglomerated.

Summary: During the hydrogeochemical study of the Mogoiskii thermal spring in Northern Transbaikalia, five samples of modern mineral sediments were collected. Geyserite, predominantly composed of opal, was found in two samples, while the other three samples were comprised mainly of carbonates, fluorides, and sodium sulfates. The formation of geyserite was associated with low-temperature hydrotherms, where their temperatures decreased upon discharge. Easily soluble brine minerals precipitate on the evaporation barrier and may dissolve completely during rainy periods.

Summary: A large amount of evaporites were deposited during the Messinian Salinity Crisis across the Mediterranean, forming a three-stage model. Researchers in the Mesaoria Basin in North Cyprus discovered MSC gypsum deposits, which can be tentatively assigned to different stages based on the lithostratigraphic gypsum succession. This study highlights the local variations in sedimentary records and raises questions about the systematic application of the traditional ‘three-stage’ lithostratigraphic model in North Cyprus and other MSC Mediterranean evaporite successions.

Summary: Previous studies have confirmed that primary fluid inclusions in halite can record and preserve information about the major ion chemistry of seawater. In this study, the ratios of redox sensitive trace metals in primary fluid inclusions in halite from two boreholes in the Polish sector of the European Southern Permian Basin were determined. The results show that the trace metal abundances in fluid inclusions vary in response to changes in seawater redox conditions, indicating their potential as a redox proxy.

Summary: This study investigates the petrological and geochemical characteristics of an elemental sulfur deposit in the Las Minas de Hellin basin in southeast Spain. The results show that elemental sulfur occurs as pseudomorphs in sedimentary gypsum and is related to calcification and silicification of sedimentary biomediated dolomite. The mineralization is considered to be formed during early diagenesis through bioepigenesis.

Summary: The Eregli-Ulukisla Basin in the southeastern Central Anatolian Cenozoic basins is divided into two sub-basins with different palaeotopographic conditions, showcasing changes in flora and climate during the Late Miocene. The study reveals a transition from archaic to advanced angiosperm morphology in pollen assemblages along with recurrent arid phases during sediment deposition.
