Summary: In this study, we propose an efficient method for querying the graph edit distance in large databases. By using lower and upper bounds, we reduce the number of exact computations required. We derive new lower bounds from tree metrics and combine them for effective filtering. Our method can handle large databases and the lower bounds are already close to the exact graph edit distance.

Summary: This study evaluates hydrological similarity using a rainfall-runoff model in 576 catchments across four climate regions in Iran. The results indicate that physical similarity has a greater influence on model transferability than geographical distance, and the effect of geographical distance varies between wetter and drier regions.

Summary: The article introduces a new mathematical basis for similarity space and describes the relationship between distance and similarity from set theory. It derives generally valid relations for the conversion between similarity and a metric, as well as presents a general solution for the normalization of a given similarity space or metric space. The derived solutions unify various similarity and distance functions, such as the Jaccard coefficient, Tanimoto coefficient, Steinhaus distance, Ruzicka similarity, Gaussian similarity, edit distance and edit similarity.

Summary: This paper proposes a new form of the pigeonhole principle to optimize query processing for Hamming distance search. By allowing variable partitioning and threshold allocation, the constraint of candidates is improved and cost-aware methods are designed. Our solution shows strong robustness in skewed data distributions and superior query processing performance compared to state-of-the-art methods.

Summary: We propose a method using a depth camera for estimating the mechanical parameters of fabrics in a casual capture setup. Our method allows the creation of mechanically-correct digital representations of real-world textile materials, which is essential for interactive design and engineering applications. Unlike existing capture methods, our solution is cost-effective, agnostic to optical appearance, and enables fabric arrangement by non-expert operators.

Summary: Spherical fuzzy sets have gained popularity in various fields as a generalization of picture fuzzy sets and Pythagorean fuzzy sets. This study proposes novel distances and similarity measures for spherical fuzzy sets and applies them to medical diagnosis for COVID-19. The newly defined similarity measures provide advantages and contribute to the understanding of similarity between objects.

Summary: In order to ensure the safety of concrete dams, a large number of monitoring instruments are embedded in the bodies and foundations of the dams. However, missing monitoring data often cause difficulties in diagnosing dam safety and precisely predicting their deformation. This paper proposes a new method for imputing missing deformation data by improving the deformation similarity index and using a combined weighting method and the k-means clustering method.

Summary: This study introduces a new measure of semantic similarity, called sensorimotor distance, which is based on multidimensional comparisons of experiential strength between concepts. The results demonstrate that sensorimotor distance has comparable explanatory power to traditional measures of semantic similarity, explains variance in human judgements missed by other measures, and remains grounded and computationally efficient. The study also provides a web-based tool for easily calculating and visualising sensorimotor distance between words, with a large coverage of word pairs.

Summary: This paper proposes an accurate and reasonable indoor trajectory similarity measure, ISTSM, which considers the features of indoor trajectories and indoor semantic information simultaneously. Experimental results demonstrate that ISTSM is more accurate and reasonable compared to other popular trajectory similarity measures.

Summary: The characterization of ship routes and route similarity measurement based on AIS data is studied using an open-source approach in this research. Route characteristics for a container ships fleet on the USA East Coast were evaluated in terms of length, duration and speed, and similarity was measured using the DFD. The proposed methodology enables assessment of similarities between individual ships or fleets.

Summary: In this paper, a similarity index based on max-sliced Wasserstein distance is proposed for relative quality comparison of remote sensing products. The method quantifies the spatial difference, including geometric shapes and spatial locations, between two products in raster form. It is particularly useful in dealing with misregistration between datasets.

Summary: In this work, a novel, parallel and locality-oriented implementation of Hausdorff distance is proposed, utilizing morphological dilations for the first time in the literature. The proposed approach shows faster speed than state-of-the-art algorithms in practical cases, especially in medical image registrations.

Summary: The study proposed a technique for measuring similarity at a sensed-lexicon level for documents in Punjabi language, using Gurumukhi script, with four major processing levels. Results indicated that the combination of stop word removal, stemming, and 'noun' based synonym replacement led to the best measurement of document similarity. Additionally, there was a strong correlation between the Cosine Similarity Index and the Human Intelligence Task based rating.
