Summary: Research isolated 216 monoclonal antibodies from patients with COVID-19, with three potent antibodies neutralizing the Alpha and Beta variants of SARS-CoV-2. Bispecific antibodies designed through distinct mechanisms showed high efficacy in inhibiting virus infection, with one exhibiting over 100-fold higher potency than a monoclonal antibody cocktail and protecting against disease in hamster models.

Summary: After a paper is published, serious concerns about the study, authors or background processes may arise, leading to the rapid retraction of the paper by editors-in-chief if there is sufficient evidence of ethical offenses or methodological errors. However, there may be a significant time gap between receiving a report and finding a resolution, during which readers need to be alerted to the potential unreliability of the paper. In such cases, editors can issue an editorial expression of concern (EoC) as an alternative document.

Summary: Despite similar infection rates, COVID-19 has resulted in more deaths in men than women. A study on K18-human angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) mice infected with SARS-CoV-2 showed that female mice had a unique protein expression profile in the lung microenvironment, making them less vulnerable to severe infection. In contrast, male mice benefited from inhaling recombinant ACE2, which neutralized the virus and protected the lungs by maintaining a certain receptor ratio.

Summary: Contaminants of emerging concern, particularly in aquatic systems, pose a serious threat to the health of freshwater mussels. This study aimed to identify the sub-category of contaminants that are most likely to impact Pyganodon grandis and to investigate the alterations in metabolites and gene expression at different sites. The findings identified specific contaminants that significantly covaried with changes in metabolites and revealed their potential negative impact on mussel health and ongoing declines in population. The integration of omics technologies provided a comprehensive assessment of the short-term effects of contaminants on organismal physiology.

Summary: The inspiring ideas of Professor Lester Packer substantially enriched our understanding of biological systems, especially his contributions to the role of vitamin E in membranes and exercise biology. His research on the intermembrane exchange, membrane stabilization, and redox signaling of tocols provided valuable insights into the protective functions of vitamin E in membranes and gene expression.

Summary: This study examines the predictive ability of Internet concern about COVID-19 on stock index returns using GARCH models. The results show that COVID-19's Internet concern has a negative impact on stock index returns during the overall and high-concern periods, while its influence is mixed during the low-concern period. Additionally, Internet concern about COVID-19 improves the prediction accuracy of stock index returns during the high-concern period, but loses its powerful predictive ability during the overall and low-concern periods.
