Summary: This review assessed the effectiveness of patient-centered self-management care interventions in improving glycemic control and self-care behaviors in adults with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that patient-centered self-management interventions significantly reduced HbA1c levels, and interventions that included both educational and behavioral components were more effective.

Summary: Telerehabilitation can improve the symptoms and quality of life of fibromyalgia patients. However, the safety of telerehabilitation remains uncertain due to the lack of sufficient evidence. More rigorously designed trials are needed in the future to verify the safety and efficacy of telerehabilitation in fibromyalgia.

Summary: The study suggests that balneotherapy can benefit fibromyalgia syndrome by improving pain and quality of life, although the effects on tenderness and depression vary at different time points. Further research with established balneotherapy regimens and longer observation periods is needed.

Summary: The systematic review found that self-management interventions can improve physical function and reduce pain in the short and long-term for patients with chronic widespread pain (CWP) including fibromyalgia. However, the quality of evidence was rated as low, suggesting the need for future research to address quality issues and incorporate more theory and patient involvement to better understand the variability in outcomes.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) in Saudi Arabia. The results indicate a high prevalence of FMS (13.4%) in Saudi Arabia, with a higher prevalence among women. It is recommended that planners should take steps to reduce the prevalence of FMS in Saudi Arabia.

Summary: Pediatric patients with May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS) often experience post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) and recurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Prediction of PTS is complex and early predictors were not identified to guide clinical practice. The use of imaging-guided therapy and assessment of thrombus burden predicted vessel patency, while lack of patency predicted recurrent DVT.

Summary: Self-reported questionnaires are widely used in clinical practice for reviewing patients, but their reliability varies. This systematic review found that patient-reported comorbidities generally had poor-to-moderate reliability, except for endocrine diseases which showed good-to-excellent reliability. The reliability was influenced by factors such as age, sex, and educational level.

Summary: This study aims to increase knowledge about adrenal medullary hyperplasia (AMH) by reviewing reported cases. The majority of AMH patients have excessive catecholamine secretion, particularly hypertension. Most of them undergo adrenalectomy, which leads to symptom resolution.

Summary: This systematic review examined the relationship between diets and pain symptoms in fibromyalgia. Twelve studies were included, involving 546 participants. The findings suggested that plant-based diets and anti-inflammatory diets may have beneficial effects on pain symptoms in fibromyalgia. However, due to the limited sample size and duration of interventions, there is currently insufficient evidence to recommend specific diets for fibromyalgia patients.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the association between phthalate exposure and metabolic syndrome in the general population. Through a comprehensive literature search, including 9 cross-sectional studies and 25,365 participants, it was found that both low molecular weight and high molecular weight phthalates were associated with an increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome. Additionally, six specific phthalate metabolites were also associated with a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome.

Summary: Through a systematic review and meta-analysis, the association between fibromyalgia and mortality was examined. The results suggest that fibromyalgia is associated with overall mortality, but not with specific causes of death. The findings highlight the importance of recognizing the severity of fibromyalgia and implementing measures such as screening for suicidal ideation, accident prevention, and infection prevention and treatment.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the effects of various types of electrical neuromodulation in the treatment of fibromyalgia. The results showed that active electrical neuromodulation and active transcranial direct current stimulation had significant effects on subjective pain, depression, and functioning. Different anode transcranial direct current stimulation electrode positions had a significant impact on depression. Meta-regression analysis revealed that the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on depression were significantly associated with age. Overall, electrical neuromodulation significantly improves pain, depression, and functioning in patients with fibromyalgia.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the optimal dose of duloxetine and its efficacy and safety in the management of fibromyalgia. The findings revealed that duloxetine was more effective than placebo, regardless of the dose. Therefore, individualized dosing of duloxetine should be considered for fibromyalgia treatment.

Summary: Digital health interventions have the potential to improve accessibility and effectiveness of palliative care, with most studies reporting positive impacts on education, information sharing, decision-making, communication, and costs. However, the impacts on quality of life, physical and psychological symptoms remain inconclusive. Most existing systematic reviews were judged as low quality according to AMSTAR 2 criteria, requiring caution in interpreting the findings.

Summary: Neuropathic pain is a challenging condition with current medications providing inadequate relief, leading to the consideration of cannabis-based medicines as a treatment option. However, the evidence supporting the use of cannabis-based medicines for chronic neuropathic pain is of low quality, with conflicting conclusions on their efficacy and potential side effects, indicating the need for further research.

Summary: Nociplastic pain is characterized by sensitization of the nervous system without a clear anatomical abnormality to explain the pain severity. It is often associated with central nervous system symptoms such as fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and sleep disturbances, as well as other somatic symptoms. The use of cannabinoids, including cannabis-based medicines, for treating nociplastic pain conditions is a potential avenue that warrants further investigation and understanding by healthcare providers.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness, tolerability, and safety of cannabis-based medicines (CbMs) for chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) in long-term observational studies. The results showed that CbMs had positive effects on multiple symptoms for some CNCP patients and were generally well tolerated and safe. However, the certainty of evidence in observational studies was very low.

Summary: There are concerns about the development of cannabis use disorder (CUD) in patients using medical cannabis for chronic pain. The current diagnostic criteria for CUD may not accurately identify patients using cannabis for therapeutic reasons. Alternative strategies are needed to determine the true prevalence of CUD in chronic pain patients treated with medical cannabis. In a study conducted in three German pain centers, the prevalence of CUD in chronic pain patients prescribed medical cannabis was assessed using anonymous questionnaires.

Summary: This article presents a new model called FITSS (Fibromyalgia: Imbalance of Threat and Soothing Systems), which proposes that an imbalance in emotion regulation, specifically an overactive 'threat' system and underactive 'soothing' system, may contribute to the development of fibromyalgia. This model provides a new perspective for future research and may stimulate the discovery of novel therapeutic interventions.
