Summary: This study aimed to develop a prediction model for the preoperative decision to insert an arterial and central venous catheter and automatically link it to the electronic medical record. Through analysis of a large amount of patient data, it was found that the deep neural network model had the best predictive performance, with operation code information playing a key role.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the most optimal central venous catheter (CVC) for pediatric patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) in terms of complications. The findings suggest that TIVAP is more suitable for pediatric patients with HL compared to PICC, as it reduces complications and early removal.

Summary: This retrospective study examined patients in a medical intensive care unit who received CVC insertions between 2014-2020. Findings showed that around one-third of guidewires migrated to the IVC during the insertion procedure, while the rest migrated to the right atrium/right ventricle. There was no significant association between the side and point of CVC insertion and the location of guidewire migration.

Summary: The implementation of long-term parenteral nutrition often requires central venous access, which carries a considerable risk of catheter-related venous thrombosis. The prevention and treatment of this condition in patients undergoing long-term parenteral nutrition is a gray area in the literature, with few randomized controlled clinical trials and a generally low level of evidence. The Italian Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism conducted a narrative review and Delphi consensus to provide practical recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of catheter-related venous thrombosis in these patients.

Summary: This short review aims to help radiologists identify medical devices and their most common complications when interpreting a chest X-ray. Nowadays, a variety of medical devices are frequently used, especially in critical patients. It is crucial for radiologists to be knowledgeable about what to look for and to consider the technical factors associated with each device's positioning.

Summary: This study examined central venous catheter-related venous thrombotic events in children using the Italian Registry of Pediatric Thrombosis. The results showed that CVC-VTEs are common in children, occurring mainly in non-cardiac sites and younger children. Doppler ultrasound was the most commonly used diagnostic technique and anticoagulant therapy was the standard treatment. The findings of this study contribute to improving the detection and management of this complication.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the risk factors associated with the development of porto-spleno-mesenteric venous thrombosis after elective splenectomy. The results showed that spleen diameter, myeloproliferative disorder, intraoperative platelet transfusion, and intraoperative red blood cells transfusion were the main factors associated with thrombosis.

Summary: A cohort study showed that catheter diameter is related to the development of deep vein thrombosis. It was found that using smaller diameter catheters can reduce the risk of thrombosis, and both the size model and the catheter-to-vein ratio model have similar accuracy in predicting thrombosis.

Summary: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play a crucial role in the formation of arterial, venous, and cancer-related thrombosis by promoting coagulation and disrupting vascular microenvironmental homeostasis. These findings provide new targets for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis.

Summary: Venous thromboembolism is a significant concern during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Local thrombolytic therapy has emerged as an effective alternative to anticoagulation alone for acute proximal deep vein thrombosis. However, there is limited data on the bleeding risk of thrombolysis in the postpartum period. This article reviews the safety outcomes of catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) in the peri- and postpartum period and discusses a case of postpartum acute iliofemoral thrombosis treated with CDT and endovascular revascularization.
