Summary: The growing body of working dog literature includes many scales developed to measure dog behavior, but when comparing behavior to working dog ability, studies often rely on training organizations' ratings or pass/fail at selection. Working ability is complex and influenced by external factors, so multiple facets of performance should be considered to understand how selection, training, and operations impact it. A validated method for quantifying performance aspects is needed.
