Summary: A newly synthesized chalcone derivative was used as a ligand to form a stable cobalt (II/III) complex, with evaluation of its cytotoxic activity against breast cancer cells and prooxidant/DNA binding activity. The complex exhibited prooxidant activity and strong binding tendency with DNA base pairs, supported by molecular docking theoretical studies showing interactions with breast cancer-related protein structures.

Summary: Nowadays, there are studies on the design and synthesis of new catalysts for olefin oligomerization and polymerization, with non-toxic metals and high catalytic activities. Transition metal complex compounds, such as Fe(II), Cr(III), and Zr(II), that contain pyridine or quinoline ligands have been found to exhibit moderate catalytic activity in ethylene and propylene polymerizations. In this study, a new cobalt(II) complex compound with bis(5-chloroquinolin-8-olato)-bis(pyridine) ligands was synthesized and tested for its catalytic activity in reactions of 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol and norbornene oligomerizations. The results showed that the activated bis(5-chloroquinolin-8-olato)-bis(pyridine)-cobalt(II) catalyst can promote the formation of oligomers in nitrogen atmosphere, at atmospheric pressure, and at room temperature, demonstrating moderate catalytic activity in norbornene oligomerization and low catalytic activity in 2-chloro-2-propen-1-ol oligomerization.

Summary: This study demonstrates the accuracy and speed of deep neural networks (DNNs) in estimating the axial magnetic anisotropy (D) values for single-ion magnets. By using a curated database of cobalt(II) compounds, the DNN achieved significantly higher accuracy and speed compared to density functional theory (DFT) methods. The findings suggest the potential for DNNs to predict anisotropy in larger molecules, even when trained on smaller ligands.

Summary: Pairing cations with weakly coordinating anions (WCAs) can result in highly Lewis-acidic and reactive species. To address the problem of excessive reactivity, a series of readily available Co(II)-WCA salts have been introduced with the metal center stabilized by weakly bound ligands. Comprehensive characterization of these complexes has been conducted, revealing their stability and Lewis acidity. Additionally, the use of silver salts has been explored to prepare novel Ag(I) complexes with the same ligands. Experimental and computational studies show that these Co(II) complexes are promising candidates as catalysts in reactions requiring Lewis acids.

Summary: Reversible molecular crystal transformation between coordinate aggregates and hydrogen bonded assemblies has been achieved. Crystal 1 can transform into crystal 2 by breaking the coordinate chains and adding hydrogen bonding motifs. Crystal 2 has a pseudohexagonal arrangement and is connected by triple hydrogen bonds. The tautomerization of CA and M ligands associated with the crystal transformations was analyzed using single crystal X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. Photoluminescence was also used to probe the tautomer conversions of conjugated molecules. Crystal 1 is flexible and can recover to its original shape after stress release, while crystal 2 is brittle and shows mechanical anisotropy along different orientations.

Summary: Helical complexes composed of organic ligand strands and metallic centers, called helicates, have potential interactions with biomacromolecules. In this study, water-soluble cobalt(II) double-stranded helicates were synthesized and their interactions with biomacromolecules were analyzed. The results showed different binding capacities of these complexes with DNA and albumin, and the main intermolecular forces involved were Van der Waals and hydrogen bonds.

Summary: The article investigates the ferroelectric spin crossover behavior in a cobalt(II) complex and finds that the flip-flop motion of the fluorophenyl ring can affect the spin state conversion. Confirmation of this effect is provided through single crystal X-ray structures, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis and electrocatalytic activity of two mononuclear cobalt-acylpyrazolone complexes. The complexes exhibit dense crystallite morphologies and show excellent catalytic activity for water splitting reactions. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest that the complexes are strong electrophiles.
