Summary: This research examines the implementation of a centrally managed, globally integrated supplier base by a global engineering firm. Through a longitudinal case study, the researchers identified different approaches used by the company, including supplier base reduction, prioritizing suppliers based on importance, and testing supplier relationship management. Based on these findings, a conceptual framework for global supplier base management is proposed, contributing to the literature on operations and supply chain management.

Summary: This study reveals the significant role of asymptomatic transmission of COVID-19 in the global crisis. The findings show that COVID-19 has a low fatality rate but a high death toll compared to SARS and MERS, and it has a higher asymptomatic rate. Therefore, implementing a zero-COVID policy is necessary.

Summary: Car accidents are a leading cause of death, often caused by driver distractions. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) aim to improve road safety by warning drivers of dangerous situations, but continuous alarms can be overwhelming. This study proposes using gaze tracking to build an efficient ADAS that alerts drivers only when distracted, achieving promising results in a driving simulation environment with hit ratios between 96.37% and 81.84%.

Summary: In 2014, the GEOSS Water Strategy was published, and efforts were made to implement its recommendations. The Strategy focused on priority areas where Earth observations could benefit water research and management decisions. This article reviews the progress made in implementing the Strategy's recommendations over the past eight years.

Summary: Since 1999, the Office of the United States Surgeon General has identified suicide prevention as a national public health priority, with the most recent update in 2012. Between 1999 and 2018, suicide rates in the U.S. increased by approximately one-third, making suicide the tenth leading cause of death. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to address the full spectrum of suicidal behavior due to increases in social isolation, mental distress, and economic hardship.

Summary: In order to address the vulnerability issues of the traditional EKF-based GNSS/IMU/Vision fusion scheme to NLOS and multipath contaminated GNSS, as well as low-quality vision measurement, we propose an adaptive weighting strategy. By adjusting the weights of vision and GNSS measurements adaptively based on the chi-square test statistic, the proposed algorithm achieves improved accuracy compared to traditional EKF-based GNSS/IMU fusion and compared EKF-based GNSS/IMU/Vision fusion.

Summary: The EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability aims to remove harmful chemicals from consumer products, including food contact materials. This strategy has the potential to significantly improve public health protection by banning the use of chemicals that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic to reproduction, or persistent and bioaccumulative, or endocrine-disrupting chemicals in food contact materials. A systematic analysis of food contact chemicals revealed a list of 388 chemicals that should be phased-out, including CMRs and PFAS, with evidence of their presence in food contact materials. This study justifies a shift towards a hazard-based approach to regulating chemicals in food contact materials.

Summary: This study aims to identify barriers and facilitators for the implementation of nonoperative treatment (NOT) with antibiotics for children with simple appendicitis. The results revealed that appendectomy is considered routine and safe, making individuals hesitant towards alternative treatment options. The implementation of NOT requires inclusion in national appendicitis guidelines, as well as more experience and scientific evidence. Treatment choice depends on individual patient preferences.

Summary: In this study, a novel LiDAR-assisted accuracy improvement strategy for binocular visual measurement is proposed. Calibration between LiDAR and binocular camera is achieved by aligning 3D points cloud and 2D images using the Perspective-n-Point (PNP) algorithm. A nonlinear optimization function and depth-optimization strategy are established to reduce the error of binocular depth. Experimental results demonstrate that our strategy can improve the depth accuracy of binocular visual measurement compared to three stereo matching methods, with the mean error decreasing from 33.46% to 1.70% at different distances.

Summary: Clubroot, caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae, is a devastating disease that affects cruciferous crops worldwide. The use of resistant cultivars is currently the best strategy to control the disease, but new pathotypes are emerging that can overcome resistance. Understanding the genomics of the pathogen and host is crucial for finding a stable solution for growers.
