Summary: Remote assessment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis has increased in recent years. In this study, two novel composite disease activity indexes based on thermography of hands and machine learning were developed and validated, showing strong correlations with ultrasound-determined synovitis and potential to improve remote consultations with patients with RA.

Summary: Plasma tumour M2-PK levels are significantly correlated with disease activity in RA patients, and a decline in levels was observed after inflammation reduction. Tumour M2-PK, when combined with ESR and CRP, provides a high predictive value for distinguishing disease activity status in RA patients.

Summary: The study on Chinese patients with RA showed high correlations and concordance among different DAIs, but significant discordance was also observed. The four DAIs are not interchangeable in clinical practice for assessing disease activity in RA patients.

Summary: IL-41 expression is increased in the serum of RA patients and positively correlated with disease-related parameters. IL-41 may serve as a potential new diagnostic biomarker for RA.

Summary: The study found significant disparities between CDAI and RAPID3 in categorizing disease activity, with the greatest differences seen in identifying patients with low or moderate disease activity. These differences could impact treatment decisions when using a treat-to-target approach.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between dryness of eyes and rheumatoid arthritis severity. Data was collected using a structured pre-tested questionnaire, and the severity of dry eyes was assessed using the Ocular Surface Disease Index questionnaire and Tear Film Breakup Time. Rheumatoid arthritis severity was assessed using Disease Activity Score-28 with erythrocyte sedimentation rate. The results showed a significant association between the severity of dryness of eyes and rheumatoid arthritis, as indicated by disease activity scores, Ocular Surface Disease Index scores, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate.

Summary: In rheumatoid arthritis patients with low 28-joint tender and swollen joint counts but who perceive their disease as active, there may be pain in uncounted joints that could respond to rheumatoid arthritis treatment.

Summary: The FLARE-RA questionnaire aims to identify flare in rheumatoid arthritis patients, with a proposed cut-off score of 2.3 for acceptable situation based on patient satisfaction. The correlation between FLARE-RA score and DAS28(ESR) AUC was moderate, indicating a difference between the assessments.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the short-term risks of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) based on their current disease activity, including remission. The results showed that failure to reach remission is associated with an increased risk of ACS, highlighting the importance of optimizing cardiovascular risk factors in these patients.

Summary: The study found that an increase in BMI may not result in changes in DAS28-esr in patients receiving infliximab, but may lead to a decrease in joint erosions.

Summary: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are early triggers of pathogenic inflammation in periodontitis, a prevalent oral inflammatory disease. NETs promote IL-17/Th17 immune response and contribute to bone destruction. Human findings support the role of NET-mediated pathology in periodontitis.

Summary: In patients with RA, the use of MTX was associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular events, particularly HF-related hospitalizations. However, this association was not mediated through reductions in RA disease activity, suggesting that MTX may modify CVD risk in this population through alternative mechanisms.
