Summary: This study aimed to find a cutoff value for diagnosing trigger thumb by analyzing the cross-sectional area ratio of specific parts of the flexor pollicis longus tendon in high-frequency ultrasound examination. 271 healthy volunteers and 57 patients with clinically diagnosed trigger thumb were evaluated. The ratio of C1 to C2 (C1/C2) was analyzed and compared. The mean C1/C2 in healthy thumbs was significantly smaller than in diseased thumbs. The cutoff values of C1/C2 to distinguish healthy thumb from diseased thumb in children and adults were determined.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of two surgical procedures for thumb carpometacarpal (TCMC) osteoarthritis and found that the double-mobility TCMC prosthesis had superior outcomes at 6 weeks, but no significant differences at 6 months and 1 year postoperatively. The implant survival rate after 12 months was 96%, which was acceptable.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated the nonoperative treatment outcomes of finger flexor tenosynovitis in sport climbers and evaluated the association with baseline measures and therapy contents. All patients initially received conservative treatment and only one patient needed additional therapy. The treatment resulted in a significant reduction in pain intensity during climbing. The average duration of symptoms was 30.5 weeks. All patients were able to resume climbing, with 75% regaining or exceeding their initial climbing level. The outcomes were good to excellent and there was no correlation between therapy contents and therapy outcome, suggesting that finger flexor tenosynovitis in sport climbers has a favorable natural course without requiring invasive therapy.

Summary: A case report of multiple ganglion cysts arising from the flexor tendon sheath in a patient undergoing an open A1 pulley release for trigger finger disorder was presented. The patient achieved excellent outcomes after surgical excision and tendon repair, with no recurrence of ganglion cyst at the 12-month follow-up.

Summary: This study compared the development of trigger finger (TF) between patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) treated with carpal tunnel release (CTR) and those treated conservatively using Korean National Health Insurance Services data. The study found that patients treated with CTR had higher rates of TF diagnosis and TF operations compared to those without CTR. Most TF cases occurred within five years after CTR. Risk factors for TF development were not significant in logistic regression analysis.

Summary: This case study examined the effectiveness of electroacupuncture in treating trigger finger. The patient experienced significant reductions in locking and pain, as well as functional improvements after treatment. The authors suggest that electroacupuncture may alleviate pain, restore normal function, and compress the nodule, thus eliminating triggering. Further research is needed to validate these findings.

Summary: Both crossed-wire and lateral-wire fixation led to satisfactory functional outcomes in elbow function, with no significant difference between them. However, crossed-wire fixation had a higher risk of iatrogenic neurologic injury, while also showing greater fixation stability and lower incidence of loss of fracture reduction. The quality of evidence for both techniques was rated as low or very low.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the accuracy of 8 clinical tests, determine the best positivity criteria, and investigate the ability to distinguish between full-and partial-thickness tears. Results showed the empty-can test had the highest sensitivity, while the Patte test and drop-arm test had the highest specificity, and pain associated with weakness was the best positivity criterion.

Summary: The study found no significant difference in DASH outcomes between above-elbow and below-elbow casting for non-surgical treatment of displaced distal radius fractures at 6 months. Below-elbow casting was less debilitating for patients during treatment, had comparable performance in maintaining reduction, and had fewer minor adverse effects compared to above-elbow casting.
