Summary: The study explores the response of primary care physicians (PCPs) to integrative physician (IP) consultations and recommended integrative oncology (IO) treatment programs. The study found that PCPs were more likely to respond if the patient was Hebrew-speaking and their responses included addressing the patient's medical condition, quality of life concerns, patient-centered reflections, available resources, and attitudes towards the treatment program. Therefore, promoting communication between PCPs and IP can be significant in improving patient outcomes from IO treatment programs.

Summary: The study aimed to describe the use and outcomes of a consultation call line and virtual counseling to support the management of substance use disorders in pediatric primary care. The results showed that both the consultation call line and virtual counseling were feasible in pediatric primary care, with the majority of consultations resulting in recommendations for treatment in primary care.

Summary: In Germany, homeless people have the right to healthcare within the regular healthcare system. However, due to their specific living conditions, they seldom make use of these services. This study aims to analyze the consultation reasons and diagnoses prevalent among the homeless in comparison to regular primary care patients. It also examines the means and obstacles of integrating the homeless into Germany's regular healthcare system.

Summary: The Rendez-vous Sante & PRIME; Que & PRIME;bec is a national online booking (e-booking) system of medical appointments in primary care in Canada. This study aimed to describe the adoption by users and analyze the factors that facilitate or limit its implementation. A mixed methods evaluation was conducted, including interviews, audit logs of the system, and a population-based survey. The e-booking system had low adoption due to poor alignment with organizational and professional practices, while other commercial systems were better adapted to interdisciplinary care and patient prioritization.

Summary: Several artificial intelligence algorithms have been proposed for diagnosing glaucoma by analyzing eye function and/or structural changes. In this study, classifiers were modeled and evaluated to predict self-reported glaucoma using a single, easily obtained ocular feature (intraocular pressure) and non-ocular features. The classifiers showed potential for identifying suspected glaucoma using primarily non-ocular features.

Summary: Rates of alcohol-associated deaths have been increasing over the past 20 years, with a significant rise between 2019 and 2020. This study investigates the geographic disparities in documentation of alcohol-related problems in primary care electronic health records, which may result in undertreatment of alcohol use disorder.

Summary: This study examines the use of career ladders for medical assistants (MAs) in primary care practices as a mechanism for increasing wages and career opportunity for MAs. The research found that career ladders can provide MAs with more opportunities for career advancement and result in yearly income increases ranging from $3000 to $10,000 after participating in the career ladder programs.

Summary: The study examined early medical abortion services provision in Australia, with national rates increasing from 2015 to 2019. Rates were higher in outer regional and remote areas compared to major cities in 2019. However, a significant proportion of women lived in areas where early medical abortion services were not locally available in 2019, particularly in remote areas.

Summary: We aimed to assess the added predictive performance of free-text Dutch consultation notes in detecting colorectal cancer in comparison to currently used models. Our study developed, evaluated, and compared three prediction models for colorectal cancer in a large primary care database. The model that includes both known predictive features and free-text data performed statistically significantly better than the other two models.

Summary: The use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) significantly reduces the risk of mortality in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Current guidelines recommend a waiting period before referral for prophylactic ICD, but with advancements in medical therapy for HFrEF, reassessment of this waiting period is warranted.

Summary: Studies on functional recovery after pediatric forearm fractures are rare. This study aimed to provide insight into normal recovery by evaluating limitations, post-traumatic symptoms, range of motion (ROM), and dexterity. Findings showed that mild limitations are common, and pain and restricted movement are common post-traumatic symptoms. Further investigation is needed for the recovery of range of motion.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate oncological events after initial treatment to assess current follow-up strategies for high-grade bone sarcomas in the Netherlands. The study found a plateau in local recurrences and distant metastatic events after four years of treatment for high-grade osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. However, due to a lack of reliable evidence, additional guidance on follow-up intervals and duration could not be provided. Further collaborative research with larger groups is needed to provide a solid scientific recommendation for follow-up in the heterogeneous patient population with bone sarcoma.

Summary: The study found that joint preparation using hand instruments and convex/concave reamers, as well as joint fixation with crossed screws, were associated with a higher incidence of nonunion. Postoperative hallux valgus angle and body weight were also correlated with nonunion. Therefore, it is crucial to properly correct the hallux valgus deformity during surgery.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether the range of tibial rotation (rTR) increases after ACL injury and whether it returns to normal after ACL reconstruction (ACLR). The results showed that rTR increased during high-demand tasks compared to low-demand tasks. Before ACLR, rTR was smaller in the ACL-deficient knees compared to the contralateral knees. After ACLR, rTR increased compared to pre-operative but was still smaller than the contralateral knees.

Summary: This systematic review examined the effect of different types of joint preparation, joint fixation, and postoperative weight-bearing protocols on non-union frequency in first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) arthrodesis in patients with moderate-to-severe hallux valgus. The results suggest that joint preparation with convex/concave reamers and joint fixation with a plate using a lag screw significantly reduce the non-union rate. Full postoperative weight-bearing in a stiff-soled postoperative shoe is safe and not associated with non-union.

The findings indicated a lack of clear evidence on the effectiveness of this exercise. Future studies should adopt similar methodologies and outcome measures, and researchers are encouraged to use the Consensus on Therapeutic Exercise Training scale to ensure adequate reporting.
